GREENVILLE (CBS 11 NEWS) – Candles and condolences for the family of a 16-year-old Greenville girl whose body was discovered Tuesday inside a trunk about an hour’s drive south in Van Zandt County.

Alicia Moore disappeared after stepping off her school bus at Bourland and Walnut Streets Friday afternoon. That’s where more than 100 people gathered Wednesday night.

They brought candlelight and comfort to the girl’s family who was struggling through this dark time.

16-year-old Alicia Moore, Greenville police say, was murdered.

Residents are worried.

“It’s fear of the unknown. You don’t know what’s going to happen. What did happen and why? Why did this happen?” Denise Cox asked.

“Alicia’s life has brought us an alertness to what is going on around us,” Pastor Philip Dukes told the crowd.

Alicia stepped off the school bus Friday afternoon, a block from home, and did not come back alive.

Her mother, Aretha Moore, said, “Why? I don’t know why.”

“She was quiet. A home-body. Didn’t bother no one,” she added.

Her daughter’s body was discovered, stuffed inside a trunk, along FM 47 about four miles north of Mills Point in Van Zandt County.

The girl’s aunt, Jessica Byrd, said, “It’s a lot of questions. But at this moment. I’m just glad we found her.”

What everyone wishes is that they had found her alive.
