AUSTIN (AP) - The smiling face of Lady Bird Johnson goes on a U.S. postage stamp as the U.S. Postal Service dedicates a souvenir Forever stamp to the former first lady in Austin.
The Friday dedication is scheduled for the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center of the University of Texas at Austin. The dedication comes on the 47th anniversary of the signing of legislation Johnson promoted to beautify America’s highways.
The souvenir sheets consist of six stamps, each with a quote from Johnson on her belief in environmental protection of the nation’s countryside.
The stamps can be preordered now for delivery early next month.
Johnson was first lady from Nov. 22, 1963, to Jan. 20, 1969, during the administration of her husband, Lyndon B. Johnson.
