FORT WORTH (AP) - Fort Worth homeless advocates plan National Homeless Memorial Day recognition for a 41-year-old man fatally injured when the garbage bin in which he was sleeping was emptied into a compactor.
The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition says Chad Adams will be remembered at services Dec. 21, the longest night of the year. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports ceremonies will include a daylight memorial at the Salvation Army and a candlelight service at Union Gospel Mission.
Fort Worth police say Adams was sleeping in a trash bin early Wednesday when a garbage truck lifted and emptied the bin into its compactor. Workers stopped the contractor when the man began to scream. He was in cardiac arrest when he was removed and died later during surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital.
