AUSTIN (AP) - The lawsuit challenging how Texas public schools receive funding is entering a new phase focused on efficiency.

In the final weeks of the case, brought by more than 600 school districts against the Legislature, attorneys will try to define what qualifies as the most efficient way to spend money on public schools.

Up until now, most of the time was spent on districts trying to show that lawmakers were not giving them enough money from a broken tax system.

However a group of conservative activists argue that the state is not spending the money wisely. They are asking the court to rule on the efficiency of the system in hopes to overhauling the system as whole.

They were expected to begin Tuesday with testimony from a parent and child.
