Today was the warmest day we’ve had this month. Tomorrow could be about as warm of a day as we’ve had this year (so far). The official high at DFW airport was 81°. Wind gusts hit 30 mph from the south driving up the humidity. Dewpoints started in the 40’s this morning. By afternoon they had shot up into the 60’s.

Lows tonight will be very mild, in the mid-60’s. The south wind will stay steady as some low cloud cover creeps back in:

The morning clouds should clear out, highs tomorrow will get into the upper 80’s. It’ll be windy and humid as well:

Notice the temperature in Wichita Falls, in the low 70’s. A frontal boundary is forecast to stall in the northwest corner. This will be a focus for afternoon thunderstorms. These storms could easily produce large hail and damaging winds in a line along and west from Cooke County to Palo Pinto County. If the front ends up over the metro area the storms threat moves in with it. We’ll keep an eye on it all day.

Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will also be in the 80’s, the longest stretch of warm weather we’ve had this season.

A better chance of a wider storm outbreak starts Wednesday afternoon. A large storm system moves across the central plains and pushes a cold front through north Texas. In the afternoon the dryline could fire up some storms in our western counties (from Parker up to Montague).

Then the front sweeps in a brings a line of storms into the heart of the population center by Wednesday evening.

The front moves through overnight, rain and storms should develop behind the front as well. Rain, cold winds and falling  temperatures will shock us all out of this warm period. The rain should linger into the mid-day, winds will get 25-30 mph out of the northwest with temperatures in the 50’s. The good news? We could rainfall amounts exceed one inch. Always good to get a good watering at the start of the growing season.

As skies clear overnight lows will drop into the upper 30’s by Friday morning. So yea, the week starts in the upper 80’s and ends up 50 degrees cooler by the end of it. Welcome to Spring in north Texas.
