DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Thousands marched Sunday down the streets of downtown Dallas to bring awareness to immigration reform.

Many chanted, “Si se puede” – meaning “Yes, we can”.  The crowd stretched more than a quarter-mile long.

With a bipartisan immigration reform bill before the Senate, march organizers said the urgency to pass comprehensive reform is greater now than ever before.

“Let us not wait any longer,” said Ramiro Luna to the crowd as they gathered in front of city hall at the end of the march.  “Let us fight. Let us challenge Congress.”

The bill, as it stands now, would give marchers like Reyna Hernandez a path to citizenship.

“We are here to get a better life for our kids,” she explained. “I have four kids and I want good things for them so that’s why I’m here.”

Organizers stressed to the crowd of marchers their greatest strength in is their numbers.

“Let our voices be heard through our vote,” said Luna.  “Go out and vote.”

If lawmakers couldn’t hear these marchers on Sunday, organizers said they will have to listen come election day.
