NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The public relations team representing country music star Randy Travis says the singer has not undergone heart surgery, but remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Travis, who is being treated at a North Texas hospital, has undergone a medical procedure. His representative say the 54-year-old “underwent placement of an Impella peripheral left ventricular assist device” to help stabilize his condition before transferring hospitals.
The country singer was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and is being treated for viral cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart muscles caused by a viral infection.
Some of Travis’ biggest hits to date include “Forever and Ever Amen,” “Diggin’ Up Bones,” and “Three Wooden Crosses.”
Most recently Travis has been in the news for allegedly running afoul of the law. In February 2012, Travis was charged with public intoxication after being found in a vehicle parked in front of the First Baptist Church of Sanger. Travis was also arrested in August 2012 after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper found him naked, in the middle of the road after crashing his car near Tioga.
Just last month Travis attended the 2013 CMT Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. He was scheduled to perform in Deadwood, South Dakota tomorrow.
Travis’ representatives are requesting that all cards and well wishes be sent to:
