The official yesterday at DFW airport barely reached into the 90′s , a nice break than the typical hot July weather. This cooler weather helped set up a cool morning today, lows reached into the 60′s in the outlying areas. Highs return to seasonal norms as winds pick up from the southeast. We’ll also have the higher humidity return compliments of our proximity to the Gulf.
We shouldn’t complain about the mid-90′s really, the 30-year average high for this time of year is 97°. So far this month we’ve had five days that reached 100° or higher at the DFW Airport (the average is six). Just last year we had more than double that. Back in 2011 ago we had EVERY JULY DAY BUT ONE get up to 100° or more. In fact the hottest day we’ve suffered this summer at DFW is 102°. Back in 2011 it got hotter than that EIGHT times.
We don’t have much chance of rain in the forecast. Yesterday we had .09″ of rain fall at the airport, for the month that makes just over 2″. We’ll likely end the month with below normal rainfall for the month (if no more rain falls we’ll end up very closer to normal, only .11″ short). That would make 11 of the last 13 months of below normal rainfall.
A ridge of high pressure builds in overhead over the next week. This makes for dry weather and a hot start to August:
Overnight lows get back to upper 70′s with highs in the 100° range by mid-week:
