BBB: Triple-Digit Temps Mean More A/C Repair Scams

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – With triple-digit heat in the forecast for at least the next few days North Texans are truly appreciating air conditioning, but with the hot weather comes an increase in a/c repair rip-offs.
Better Business Bureau (BBB) spokesman Javier Salazar advises consumers not to accept estimates without a face-to-face meeting. “When you’re getting estimates online it’s better to have the estimates done at your house.”
BBB statistics show air condition scammers are busiest in July and August, ripping off customers by taking money and providing shoddy or no work at all.
Consumers are being advised to do their homework. Salazar said you should always, “Check for licensing. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation requires a license for HVAC technicians and electricians.”
Salazar said another way to avoid problems is to, “Get at least three estimates in writing, providing a full description of the services provided and the materials used.”
Anyone seeking out a reputable repairperson should also take time to verify that the company has a fixed address. You should also be wary of the repairperson that says multiple, random parts are needed to correct the problem.
