FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Johnny Manziel continues to soar on the football field, but his likeability off the field the field has taken a huge hit.

Earlier this year, when the Texas A&M quarterback became the first freshman in history to win the Heisman Trophy in January 2013, he held a 97 percent favorability rating.

But since then, he’s seen his popularity slashed — almost in half to 49 percent.

The survey, conducted by E-Score, questioned 1,100 people of difference ages, income, education and geographic backgrounds.

More people know who Manziel is now, compared to eight months ago.  His awareness rating increased from 9 to 15 percent since his Heisman win.

Meanwhile, more survey respondents called Manziel rude (27 percent in September, compared to 2 percent in January), overexposed (43 percent in September, compared to 5 percent in January), and insincere (19 percent in September compared to 5 percent in January).

“It’s apparent the recent autograph incident with the NCAA and on-field grandstanding has taken him out of the public’s favor,” said Gerry Philpott, president of E-Poll Market Research. “While this may not impact his ability as a player, it most certainly will have a huge consequence as far as future endorsement deals and his financial worth as a professional athlete.”
