Today was the warmest day since a week before Christmas, it officially hit 70° at the DFW Airport. Winds gust went 30-mph through the day as clouds came in from the west. Just a remarkable winter day for all of North Texas!
A cold front is ready to arrive tonight and behind it is the coldest air of the season.
This will be the second time in four days we went from warm to cold in less than 12 hours. The winds after midnight will gust around 30-mph as a north wind drops a warm evening into the cold, cold Sunday morning. Temperatures will drop all the way to the upper 20’s with wind chills in the teens. A shocking change from evening to next morning. Highs tomorrow will only be in the upper 30’s as the cold air continues to pour in.
The cold air arrives in two waves. The second one will start to come in at the end of the day on Sunday and into Sunday night as the winds pick up again from the northwest. Wind gusts will again climb to over 30-mph as temperatures drop down into the teens. This will be the coldest air in north Texas since December 10th when the low at DFW hit 19°, in fact it should be a degree or two lower than that. That would make it the coldest morning in three years.
It is back to school on Monday for the kids and wind chills are forecast to be in the single-digits! Bundle up!
Highs on Monday will only get to freezing with wind chills staying in the teens. Tuesday morning will again see lows in the teens and low 20’s. A quick warm-up is in store for us as highs will be back in the 60’s by Friday!
We have a little bit of rain in the forecast, the best chance looks to be next weekend:
