DENVER (AP) – The Denver Broncos are back in the Super Bowl. They advanced with a 26-16 win over the Patriots in the Mile High City.
Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning led his team to victory with 400 yards passing and two touchdowns. The trip to the Super Bowl is Denver’s first in 15 years.
His career record now against Patriots QB Tom Brady is 5 and 10.
For the game Brady threw for 277 yards, most of which came after the Patriots had fallen behind by 20 points. New England only got 64 yards on the ground.
Up next for the 15-3 Broncos is the Feb. 2nd Super Bowl in New Jersey against the winner of the NFC Championship.
The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are squaring off right now for the right to face the Broncos in the Super Bowl. This is the third time these NFC West teams have met this season.
The Seahawks won the first meeting 29-3 while the Niners came back in the second game 19-17. This game features two young quarterbacks in Russell Wilson of the Seahawks and Colin Kaepernick of the 49ers.
The coaching matchup goes back to college when Jim Harbaugh of the 49ers coached at Stanford and Pete Carroll of the Seahawks was at Southern Cal. From all indications they are not the best of friends.
Since taking over the Niners Harbaugh has built a consistent winner as this is the team’s third straight appearance in the NFC championship game. That said, the Seahawks have dominated play between the two teams in games played in Seattle, losing by the combined score of 71-16.
