AUSTIN (AP) - Democrat Wendy Davis blasted her Republican rival in the Texas governor’s race for saying he would veto a law that would make it easier for victims of pay discrimination to sue their employers.

Davis rallied about 160 supporters Monday morning in Austin, some of whom planned to protest outside Greg Abbott’s attorney general’s office. Statistics show that women who work there earn lower salaries than men on average.

Statistics show that women across the state earn on average 79 cents for every dollar a man makes. Davis passed a bill through the Republican-controlled Legislature last year that would allow women more time to sue for intentional discrimination. But Republican Gov. Rick Perry vetoed the measure.

Through a spokesman, Abbott said he would also veto the bill, calling it unnecessary.
