HILL COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – Animal control officers are warning people about a wave of bee attacks that killed 2 dogs and sent one man to the hospital. Swarms have attacked at least three times so far this month. It’s the worse case of bee attacks one animal control officer said he has ever seen.

“They’re very aggressive,” said Hill County Animal Control Officer Rick Brooks.

The swarm of bees chased resident Ed Johnson all the way into his house after killing his dog named Baby Girl. Johnson kept her tied to a long rope, and found her lifeless body still on it.

“It really… it really was a shock,” said Johnson, who fought back with bug spray. “They had a real [sic] visciousness to them, “ he said.

Not far from Johnson’s ordeal, bees attacked a man in Abbott who was mowing his lawn. Eugene Woodruff was stung more than 350 times, according to doctors. The swarm came from a 6 foot tall beehive inside the wall of his house.

Tuesday morning, three men mowing the lawn at a vacant house in Hillsboro upset another hive and were all stung.

Beekeeper Tim Jordon with Honey Bee Removal said without testing he doesn’t know what kind of bees attacked or what is causing their aggressive behavior. But the county is urging people to call animal control immediately if they see a beehive.

Brooks said he’s worried that if a swarm of bees attacks a child or elderly person the possibility of a tragic outcome is much greater.
