DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Many parents this week will be dropping their kids off for their first year of college. This can be a very special time for any family. But for one North Texas family, the event is five times as special. That is because they have five kids all starting up their first year at the University of North Texas.
Forget about the Brady Bunch, these are the Diaz Quintuplets — Maria, Enna, Jorge, John and Emilio. The five siblings all recently graduated from Keller High School, and they refused to let something like college tear them apart. Enna said, “We were most likely all going to end up going to the same school.”
As it turns out, UNT had a program of study for each one of the students, and they all had the grades to be accepted. The Quints, as they are called, moved into West Hall — together. As it has been for their entire lives, they will not be farther than a shout away from each other. “We always had a room together when we were little, so we still share the same room,” said John.
Of course, there is a noticeable difference this time — no parents!
Mom and Dad said that they were ready for the big move to college, too. “This is a moment that we’ve been planning for all our life, since they were little kids,” said father Jorge Diaz Sr. “This is the day when you see your kids go to college.”
“We’re really excited,” added Maria. “It’s a lot of fun.”
But this is more than just a special moment for the Diaz family. It is also one for the history books at UNT. Admissions officials said that this is the first time that they have had a set of quintuplets all enrolled together.
It might be a first for the university, but it is also a reminder that the family who sticks together, thrives together. “We hope to have everybody here again in four years for their graduation,” said their father.
