DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The Dallas County Medical Examiner confirms remains found this past weekend in the Trinity River Bottoms near Dowdy Ferry Road do belong to Marisol Espinosa.

Dallas Police are now calling the case a homicide.

Police say the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Espinosa is the 34-year-old Dallas mother of three who went missing December 29, 2015.

She was last seen before she was to be leaving to go work at a hair salon in NorthPark Center.  She never made it there.

Espinosa’s ex-boyfriend, Faustino Valdez, was the last person to have reported seeing her. Valdez initially participated in searches for Espinosa, but then stopped.

His whereabouts became unknown in early January.

Espinosa’s cousin Wendy Lopez visited the remote site Monday where the human remains were found.  It’s in the general area where some of the searching for Espinosa has taken place.

“I came down here to see if I could find anything that would confirm it for me,” Lopez said Monday.

For months, Lopez organized weekend searchers in the hope of bringing her cousin home. She says the groups of volunteers have so often looked near the creek bed but hadn’t gone that far.
