JOE POOL LAKE (CBS11) – A few months ago, the parking lots and boat ramp at Lynn Creek Marina were underwater shutting Joe Pool Lake down to many boaters and isolating the businesses on the marina from shore down to most boaters.
But Monday, boaters waited in line to launch their water crafts to hit the lake for the first big holiday weekend since the marina reopened.
Flood water can leave hidden debris just under the surface of the water.
That’s bad news for propellers and the bottoms of boats, especially speed boats which can run up to 70 or more miles an hour.
But word got out early in the weekend the lake is clear and the debris gone. Boaters have lined up to get on the water. The marina, docks and piers damaged in the high water have all been restored to like new condition. And that impressed a lot of visitors today.
“Oh God yes!” boater James Grisham exclaimed about the rebuilt facilities. “This is incredible! From the disaster they had? This is incredible. This is really incredible. They did a great job.”
The floods put the Oasis Restaurant out of business for seven months missing most of the important summer season. This weekend is very important for them as they kick off their busiest months.
They added more outside seating trying to lure back customers.
And the restaurants assistant manager says many customers did return much to their relief.
“It was a good kickoff for us,” said Assistant Manager John Mobley. “It was real important to get a good start to the summer. It’s been busy every day and it gets everybody into the year and get going to have a good year.”
