Dallas Arboretum’s Cool Thursdays Concert Series tonight features Memphis Soul, Premier Motown Band. (9/22) Memphis Soul is an 8-piece group with a sound and style inspired by such artists as Earth, Wind and Fire, Otis Redding, Al Green and Aretha Franklin. Also, running through November 23, Autumn at the Arboretum features the nationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village with over 90,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash and was named one of “America’s Best Pumpkin Festivals,” according to Fodor’s Travel in 2015.

Enormous and spectacular gems from the Smithsonian’s National Gem Collection …officially called Giant Gems of the Smithsonian…are on display at the Perot Museum now through Jan 17, 2017. This will mark the first time such a large collection of Smithsonian gems will be on exhibit outside the Washington museum complex.

The Plano Balloon Festival is this weekend at Oakpoint Park and Nature Preserve. (9/23-25)

The Greek Food Festival of Dallas is happening at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Friday through Sunday (9/23-25).

Hear a mix of Flamenco, Jazz, Blues and Middle eastern music tomorrow night (9/23) with Nomad at the Allen Public Library. The show is free!

Starting tomorrow morning at 10am (9/23) …you can buy tickets to see the awesome Craig Ferguson. The Scotsman who became an American television host, stand-up comedian, writer, actor, director and producer will be at the Winspear Opera House for one night only Thursday, February 16.

This Saturday (9/24), check out the Rockwall Rubber Duck Regatta! This is the annual fundraiser benefiting Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall County and Meals on Wheels of Rockwall County. Thousands will watch as thousands of rubber ducks splash into the fountain at the Harbor in Rockwall and race down towards the finish line. This all day event starts at 10 am and goes through 9:30 Saturday night.  Duck Fest kicks off at the Harbor with a Corporate Duck Beauty Pageant & Race, Rubber Duck Race, Arts, Crafts, Vendors, Food, Inflatables, live concert, and a Glow in the Dark Rubber Duck race.

The Care & Mercy Foundation (CMFTX) is holding its 8th Annual Care & Mercy Foundation Golf & Gala at the Hilton Garden Inn Lewisville (Gala) and Coyote Ridge Golf Club (Golf) Monday and Tuesday September 26th & 27th. This non-profit organization supports Special Needs & Veterans service organizations in the North Texas area.

Reindeer Manor Halloween Park, the oldest haunted attraction in Texas, opens this weekend (9/24) for its 43rd year. Located on 33 acres, about twenty minutes outside of Dallas, the historic estate is said to be truly haunted by its previous owners.

Fright Fest 2016 starts this weekend (9/23) at Six Flags Over Texas.

Check out the Flights of Our Fathers Air Show & Fly-In Saturday (9/24) from 8:15 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Terrell Municipal Airport. This event benefits the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum and will offer a full day of events and attractions. You’ll see everything from a kid’s zone to static displays of military, vintage and new aircraft. They’ll have several performers lined up, including Randy Ball of Fighter Jets Inc. in his “Check-Six” MiG-17F, the Trojan Phlyers, and more. Car and motorcycle shows, flyovers of vintage and modern aircraft and guest speakers will complete a full day of activities. There’s food, of course, with a pancake breakfast to start things off at 8:30 am. Visitors can sample entries in the barbecue cook-off competition or choose refreshments from a variety of other vendors. Tickets are $10 per person or $20 per carload. Pilots and their guests who fly in receive free admission.

Fort Worth Oktoberfest is today through Saturday at Panther Island Pavilion (9/22-24).

McKinney Oktoberfest is happening in historic downtown McKinney Friday through Sunday. (9/22-25)

See the awesome “Office Space” in 35MM tonight (9/22) at the Texas Theater.

John Sebastian is playing Poor David’s Pub Friday night (9/23). This guy is best known as a founder of The Lovin’ Spoonful, a band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. He also had an impromptu appearance at Woodstock in 1969 and a #1 hit in 1976, “Welcome Back”.

Kinky Friedman is at Poor David’s Pub Saturday night (9/24).

There will be an Iris and Daylily sale Saturday (9/24) at Fort Worth Botanic Garden. This is good news if you are like me and are still being blamed by your mama because you accidentally mowed over her one Louisiana Iris.

A BBQ Bands Brew bash is happening at the Ellis County Expo Center Saturday (9/24). That is Waxahachie, ya’ll.

The SPCA of Texas Fur Ball 2016 is Saturday (9/24) at the Omni Dallas Hotel.

Rock and Roll Over, Hysteria and Holy Dyver are playing the House of Blues Saturday night (9/24).

Texas Floyd, a Pink Floyd tribute is playing Brick Tavern Bar and Grill Saturday night. (9/24)

There will be a Texas Mutiny Saturday (9/24) at Texas Motor Speedway. A music mutiny, that is. A ton of bands are playing…including Candlebox, Chevelle, the Deftones Nothing More and Avenged Sevenfold.
