ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The Arlington City Council voted to ban smoking in bars and nightclubs on Tuesday night.

The 7-2 vote happened shortly before 10:00 p.m. after some debate.

This has been a sensitive issue for bar owners who say the extension will put them out of business.

Supporters have said extending the smoking ban would protect employee rights.

The City of Arlington went smoke-free with Bingo parlors exempt back in April.
