(CBS) Everybody has something to say about Derrick Rose.

That includes Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal, who recently talked about the Bulls’ point guard on 106.7 The Fan.

“That’s hard, because I’ve never experienced that injury,” Beal said. “And I know what type of injury that is, it’s possible it’s gonna happen again. Knock on wood. But at the same time, you might have to give it a go. If you’re practicing for two months and everybody in practice is saying you’re practicing well, I figure you gotta give it a shot in a game.”

At first, it seemed like Beal caught himself and wanted to give Rose the benefit of the doubt.

“It’s his decision. I can’t really have a say so in it. If he doesn’t feel he’s mentally confident to be able to go out there and help the team, I guess I can’t really blame him for it.”

But then Beal was asked if he would lose respect for a Wizards’ teammate if they made the same decision.

“A little bit. Yeah, I would,” he said. “The type of player he is, and the mentality and competitiveness that he has, I think he would have gave it a go. I don’t know what was holding him back. I think he’s scared it’s probably going to happen again and he won’t be the same. But you’re never the same after an injury. But you just have to fight through it and do something else to be able to impact the game. I’m not sure what it is he has to do. I really can’t speak for him.”

Heat Prepare To Take On Pacers

MIAMI (AP) — A year ago in the playoffs, Indiana coach Frank Vogel raised the ire of the Miami Heat by accusing them of flopping.

Different words are resonating with the Heat again now.

Not long after the Pacers reached the Eastern Conference finals and another postseason clash with Miami, Vogel called the reigning champions “just the next team that’s in our way.”

So following the Heat practice on Sunday to start preparing for the Pacers, four-time NBA MVP LeBron James insisted that his team would be ready for the challenge of facing Indiana.

Miami beat Indiana in six games last season. The teams start the East finals Wednesday night in Miami.

Texas DPS Adds Memorial Day Patrols

AUSTIN (AP) - More Texas troopers will be on patrol over the Memorial Day weekend watching for speeders, drunken drivers and travelers not wearing seat belts.

The Department of Public Safety says increased holiday patrols will begin Friday and run through the Monday holiday.

DPS troopers last Memorial Day weekend arrested 609 DWI violators and wrote more than 6,000 speeding citations. DPS also had nearly 1,400 seat belt and child safety restraint tickets. The agency says 825 drivers were cited for not having insurance.

Troopers also arrested 264 fugitives and 219 people with outstanding felony warrants. DPS says 16 stolen vehicles were recovered during the year-ago holiday period.

North Texas Fire Reveals Full-Scale Marijuana Operation

SPRINGTOWN (CBSDFW.COM) – A full-scale marijuana growth operation was discovered inside a home after authorities responded to a house fire in Springtown on Sunday.

Authorities believe the suspect, 26-year-old William Joseph McCue, started the fire that ultimately implicated him in the crime.

“This rocket scientist goes out there to burn trash — or whatever it was — with all of that wind yesterday. Naturally the fire spreads.” said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler.

Officials suspect that the fire quickly spread from an outdoor burn barrel to nearby grass, then to a storage barn, and eventually to the residence.

The storage barn was completely destroyed, but firefighters were able to extinguish the grass fire and protect the residence. The breakthrough came when firefighters began inspecting the residence for missed hot spots.

“They’re is a hotspot in there,” said Fowler, referencing the house.”So they check it for fire — and guess what.”

Firefighters discovered a full-scale marijuana operation — including an irrigation system, grow lights, timers and humidifiers, along with 24 large hydroponic plants and 17 smaller hydroponic plants. Cultivated marijuana and other drug paraphernalia were also found at the site.

Firefighters notified the Sheriff’s Office, who arrested McCue and charged him with possession of marijuana. McCue implicated himself in tending to the marijuana grow operation.

Sheriff’s deputies took photos of the operation before the fire could destroy the evidence.

“I guess he didn’t count on fire department having access to high-tech equipment,” said Fowler.

Sheriff’s deputies say the residence was under construction to apparently expand the illegal drug operation.

The case is under investigation by the Weatherford-Parker County Special Crimes Unit, and the fire is under investigation by the Parker County Fire Marshal’s Office.

As of Monday morning, McCue remains at the Parker County Jail. Additional charges are pending.

The incident occurred on Meadow View Road around 5:00 p.m.

Tech Alumni Candi Whitaker Named As New Lady Raiders Coach

LUBBOCK (AP) - Texas Tech hired Oklahoma State associate head coach Candi Whitaker on Monday to coach its women’s basketball team.

The former Lady Raiders player returns to her alma mater as the program’s sixth coach. The move comes about a week after Kristy Curry left for Alabama.

Whitaker’s return marks the second time in the past six months the school has hired a former athlete as a coach. In December, Kliff Kingsbury was hired to replace football coach Tommy Tuberville, who went to Cincinnati.

“It is indeed special to have a former student-athlete return to lead a program that they were a significant part of,” athletic director Kirby Hocutt said. “Her leadership characteristics as a starting point guard and coach, her ties to West Texas, her experience as a Division I head coach, as well as the fact that she is a Red Raider makes her the perfect fit.”

Whitaker will be introduced at a news conference Wednesday.

As the starting point guard from 2000-2002, Whitaker helped lead the Lady Raiders to the NCAA round of 16 twice. Prior to her stint in Lubbock, the Texas native played two seasons for current OSU head coach Jim Littell at Seward County Community College in Kansas, where she led the nation in assists.

She joined the Cowgirls staff last April.

After graduating from Texas Tech, Whitaker, 33, was an assistant at Valparaiso and Missouri-Kansas City. She took over the UMKC program in 2007, becoming one of the youngest head coaches in the nation at 26.

Former Lady Raider coach Marsha Sharp said in a release that Whitaker made good moves early in her coaching career.

“Her basketball IQ and work ethic are incredible,” Sharp said.

Report: Knicks’ Anthony To Have Shoulder Re-Examined; Prigioni’s Wife Wants Out?

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Knicks star Carmelo Anthony won’t need surgery on his troublesome knee, and the team hopes it’ll be the same for his injured shoulder, according to the New York Daily News.

Anthony will have his left shoulder re-examined now that the Knicks have been eliminated from the playoffs, the Daily News reported.

He hurt the shoulder on April 14 and aggravated it in the first round against Boston. A banged-up Anthony insisted he was “fine” after the Celtics series.

“(I)t really just kind of popped in and out a little bit,” he said. “But I’m fine.”

New York was eliminated Saturday by the Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks are “hopeful” the injury “is not serious and that it will improve with rest and therapy and won’t require surgery,” the Daily News reported. Also according to the paper, Anthony won’t need arthroscopic surgery on his now-better right knee.

Meanwhile, J.R. Smith said he wants “to retire a Knick” when asked about his future following New York’s ouster Saturday. He’s expected to opt out of his contract this offseason.

“I don’t want to go anywhere else,” said the guard, who picked the wrong time of year to go ice-cold. “I love it. I love my teammates. I love my coaches. I was sitting in the locker room looking at my jersey after the game just knowing I don’t want to be anywhere else except for in the orange and blue. So we’ll see.”

Guard Pablo Prigioni will also have a big decision to make. The impending free agent may head back to the Spanish league next season because his wife “wants to return overseas,” the New York Post reported.

“I think it’s not the moment to talk about that now,” Prigioni said Saturday, according to the Post. “It’s painful to lose. It’s painful to start the vacation now. This is about the team. Now I stay quiet.”

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Willie L. Sullivan, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, is now in custody after being arrested in Dallas last Thursday.

Authorities were searching for Sullivan, who has a violent criminal history, after he violated his parole and failed to register as a sex offender. Sullivan, now 57, was arrested and sentenced in 1985 for sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman in Dallas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Unit located and arrested Sullivan at a Dallas convenience store. Authorities credit the arrest to a Crime Stoppers tip they received regarding his location. The tip will pay up to $3,000.

Sullivan’s criminal history includes Aggravated Sexual Assault, Assault with Deadly Weapon, Robbery, Burglary, Larceny, Shoplifting, Possession of Marijuana, and Escape.

Super Bowl 50 Site To Be Decided Tuesday

BOSTON (AP) — NFL owners will vote on the sites of the 50th and 51st Super Bowls on Tuesday at their spring meetings.

The San Francisco area, where a new stadium is being built in Santa Clara, and South Florida are competing for the the 50th edition, to be held in February 2016. The loser in that bidding will go against Houston to host the 51st game the following year.

A three-quarters majority of the 32 owners is required on the first ballot. If neither city gets that, then a simple majority wins on the next ballot.

The 49ers’ new home is scheduled to open for the 2014 season. The area hosted its only Super Bowl at Stanford Stadium in 1985.

Miami has staged 10, most recently in 2010. Only New Orleans has had as many Super Bowls.

Houston was host in 2004.

Jimmie Johnson Races To Record 4th All-Star Win

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Cross another milestone off of Jimmie Johnson’s list. He stands alone in All-Star history.

“Five-time” became the first four-time winner of NASCAR’s annual All-Star race, breaking a tie with the late Dale Earnhardt and teammate Jeff Gordon on Saturday night.

“To beat Jeff and Earnhardt, two guys that I have looked up to my whole life, two massive icons of our sport, this means the world to me,” Johnson said.

He also joined the late Davey Allison as only the second driver to win back-to-back All-Star races.

It was fitting that he did it at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the track Johnson, the five-time NASCAR champion, has dominated since his 2002 rookie season. Johnson has won six points races at Charlotte, led more than 1,600 laps and the win in the $1 million Sprint All-Star Race was his second straight, fourth in 12 years. He also won in 2003 and 2006.

“The only four-time All-Star champion — I am very proud of you,” crew chief Chad Knaus radioed after Johnson took the checkered flag.

A day after Johnson overshot his pit stall during qualifying to earn a poor starting spot, his Hendrick Motorsports crew changed four tires in 11 seconds on the mandatory final spot to send Johnson back onto the track in second place for the final restart.

He lined up inside of teammate Kasey Kahne for the final 10-lap sprint to the cash, and the two battled side-by-side for a little more than a lap before Johnson cleared Kahne completely. He then sailed away to an easy victory.

“We are doing great things and we are amazing ourselves in the process,” Johnson said.

Joey Logano finished second and Kyle Busch, who won two of the first four segments, was third as neither had a shot at running down Johnson once he got his No. 48 Chevrolet out front.

“The 48, once he got that clean air, he was gone,” Logano said. “Second isn’t anything to hang your head, but it’s about the million bucks tonight.”

Kahne faded to fourth and Kurt Busch, who also won two segments to give the Busch brothers a sweep, was fifth.

It was disappointing for both Busch brothers, who had the cars to beat through the first 80 laps. New scoring rules designed to stop sandbagging sent the drivers onto pit road for the mandatory final stop in order of their average finish in the first four segments.

The Busch brothers tied with an average finish of 2.0, and Kurt went down pit road as the leader based on the tiebreaker of winning the final segment.

But the two Hendrick cars beat everybody off pit road, Kyle Busch exited in third and a poor final pit stop dropped Kurt to fifth.

“Ultimately, it came down to pit road, where my guys always prove their worth,” Kyle Busch said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t have the best of stops and to come out third, well, that was the race right there. You have to be on the front row if you’re going to win this thing.”

Johnson didn’t think he had a shot at winning the All-Star race after botching his qualifying run and starting 20th in the 22-car field. By staying patient through the four 20-lap segments, he was in position at the end to make his move.

“Worked our way through there and got the job done,” Johnson said. “It’s just dedication and drive from every member of this Hendrick Motorsports team. When we started on the front row for the last segment, I knew we had a great shot at it.”

The win capped a big day for Chevrolet, which swept the first 10 spots in Indianapolis 500 qualifying shortly before racing began at Charlotte. Then Johnson, the current Sprint Cup points leader, put the manufacturer in Victory Lane.

Jamie McMurray won the 40-lap Sprint Showdown before the All-Star race to transfer into the main event, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished second to earn the other berth.

Danica Patrick won the Sprint fan vote to claim the last open spot in the race. It wasn’t a big surprise that Patrick won the vote — her fans last year elected her most popular driver of the Nationwide Series — and her public relations team was ready with a “Thank You Fans” bumper sticker she slapped on the side of her Chevrolet before the All-Star race began. She finished 20th.

Before the race, she said she wasn’t sure why her fans so ardently support her.

“I’ve said many times that I’m not sure what it is people like or see in me or why they cheer for me,” Patrick said. “To some degree being different, being a girl, there are things there. But what is it? There are a lot of different and unique drivers out there. All I know is that I try do my best to be myself all of the time. I try to be honest with the fans and at the end of the day, even if they don’t agree with what I say or do, they can respect my honesty.”

Randolph Struggles, Spurs Route Grizzlies In Game 1

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies have lost the opener in each round of this year’s playoffs, but not like this.

Tony Parker had 20 points and nine assists, and the San Antonio Spurs made a franchise postseason-record 14 3-pointers in routing Memphis 105-83 on Sunday in the Western Conference finals.

As disconcerting as the blowout loss was, Zach Randolph’s performance was just as troubling. Randolph was held to two points, going 1 for 8 from the field in 28 minutes.

“I’ve got to be better,” Randolph said. “Like I told my teammates, I’ve got to be better for them.”

He had a playoff-best 28 points and 14 rebounds in his last game, as Memphis eliminated defending West champ Oklahoma City in Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Randolph missed his first seven shots Sunday, including an open 2-foot jumper midway through the third quarter after he created space by pushing Tim Duncan under the rim. Randolph shook his head after the missed attempt.

“Obviously, he’s their best scorer. He’s a beast inside,” Parker said. “We know he’s not going to play like that every game. It just sometimes it happens.”

Duncan primarily defended Randolph, matching the burly forward’s physicality, push for push and elbow for elbow.

“They did a great job of storming,” Grizzlies guard Tony Allen said. “They forced him into a front position and the bigs were coming from the baseline hard. It just caught him by surprise, but I’m pretty sure he is going to bounce back in the second game and we will.”

Randolph’s first basket did not come until there was 9:26 left in the game on a tip-in of Mike Conley’s missed layup.

“They were disrupting my rhythm,” Randolph said. “It was just one of those nights.”

He was so shaken by his season-low in points that he apologized after the game.

“He tried to apologize, but we would not accept that,” point guard Mike Conley said. “It is not just him, it is all of us. He was telling us that he is going to do better, but we all have to do better defensively.”

The NBA’s stingiest defense wasn’t up to its usual standards, allowing the Spurs to hit 53 percent of their shots and go 14 for 29 on 3-pointers.

“We shot incredibly,” San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili said. “Making 14 3s against one of the best defensive teams in the league is not easy to do. It shows that we moved the ball very well. We attacked. We made the big ones.

“Kawhi (Leonard) and Danny (Green) were fantastic and, of course, Matt (Bonner) in the first half. When you are making shots like that, everything opens up and makes the game easier.”

Memphis got back into the game with Randolph watching from the bench.

Quincy Pondexter made a baseline cut for a layup off Darrell Arthur’s pass, then hit back-to-back 3-pointers during a 10-0 burst. Jerryd Bayless’ two-handed, fast-break dunk off a steal got the Grizzlies within 62-56 with 3:43 left in the third quarter.

The comeback was short-lived, though.

Bayless missed a 3-pointer on the next trip, and Ginobili was able to make one at the opposite end to spark an 11-1 response that immediately restored the Spurs’ lead to 16 by end of the quarter. Leonard hit a pair of 3-pointers and Gary Neal had one as San Antonio kept pouring it on in the fourth.

Both teams pulled their starters with over 5 minutes left and the Spurs leading by 21.

Green made three 3-pointers and scored 16, and Matt Bonner hit four of his five attempts for 12 points.

“We did a good job of moving the basketball, finding each other, trusting each other,” Green said. “Luckily we made some today.”

Pondexter led Memphis with 17 points, Marc Gasol scored 15 and Conley had 14 points and eight assists.

“We just didn’t play well. It’s not anything specific,” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. “It’s just that we were running too fast, we missed some layups, we were taking bad shots and our defense was really awful. And the Spurs played well.”

The Spurs asserted themselves early, scoring on their first seven possessions and also getting a couple head-to-head defensive stops from their veterans while claiming a quick 23-8 lead. Parker swiped the ball from Conley on Memphis’ second possession, running out for a layup, and Hollins burned a timeout in the first 2 minutes.

Duncan snuffed out the ensuing play by blocking Randolph’s shot, and the Spurs’ strong start continued. Bonner hit back-to-back 3-pointers for a 17-point edge late in the first quarter, and San Antonio pushed out to a 43-23 advantage following consecutive baskets by Parker with 6:06 left before halftime.

It was the largest first-half deficit for the Grizzlies during the playoffs.

“Every time we made a mistake defensively, they made us pay every time,” said Gasol, who had three baskets in a push that helped Memphis get within 51-37 at halftime. “It was over-help or no help or whatever it was, they made you pay.”

The Spurs avoided a repeat of their Game 1 loss when the teams met two years ago in the first round. The Grizzlies went on to knock San Antonio out of the playoffs as the top seed that time.

But Memphis has its own history to fall back on. The Grizzlies recovered from an 0-2 hole in the first round against the Los Angeles Clippers and an 0-1 deficit against Oklahoma City in the West semifinals.

Game 2 is Tuesday night in San Antonio.

“We definitely have to put this one behind us,” Randolph said. “We have to play better. We have to play together and as a team. That’s what we have to do.”

5 People Hurt In Fort Worth Fight

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Five people were hurt after a fight got out of hand in Fort Worth on Sunday evening. The incident started just after 8:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 3500 block of South Riverside Drive.

Authorities arrived at the scene to find one person shot in the leg and four other people stabbed. None of the injuries were life threatening, but three of the victims had to be taken to the hospital.

Police have not released any suspect information, nor have they said if any arrests were made in the case.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Yahoo is buying online blogging forum Tumblr for $1.1 billion as CEO Marissa Mayer tries to rejuvenate an Internet icon that had fallen behind the times.

The deal announced Monday represents Mayer’s boldest move yet since she left Google 10 months ago to lead Yahoo’s latest comeback attempt. It marks Yahoo’s most expensive acquisition since the Sunnyvale, Calif., company bought online search engine Overture a decade ago for $1.3 billion in cash and stock.

Yahoo is paying all cash for Tumblr, dipping into some of its remaining stash from a $7.6 billion windfall reaped last year from selling about half of its stake in Chinese Internet company Alibaba Holdings Group. Taking over Tumblr will devour about one-fifth of the $5.4 billion in cash that Yahoo had in its accounts at the end of March.

Yahoo also says that “per the agreement and our promise not to screw it up, Tumblr will be independently operated as a separate business” with David Karp staying on as CEO.

Tumblr, a service started six years by Karp, a high school dropout, now figures to play a pivotal role in Mayer’s attempt to reshape Yahoo. To take on the challenge, Mayer ended a highly successful 13-year career at Google, which she helped surpass Yahoo as the Internet’s most influential company. Since coming to Yahoo, Mayer has concentrated on improving employee morale, redesigning services and bringing in more engineering talent through a series of small acquisitions that have collectively cost less than $50 million.

Her efforts have been well-received on Wall Street so far, although most of the 69 percent surge in Yahoo’s stock price under Mayer’s leadership has been driven by the rising value of Yahoo’s remaining 24 percent in Alibaba. When Alibaba goes public within the next few years, analysts have estimated Yahoo could collect another $10 billion to $20 billion by selling the rest of its Alibaba stock.

If this deal pays off the way Mayer envisions, Tumbler could help Yahoo finally get its stock price to $33. That would be a major coup because many investors soured on Yahoo after a previous regime led by co-founder Jerry Yang squandered an opportunity five years ago to sell the entire company to Microsoft for $33 per share. The stock spent more than four years trading below $20 before the recent surge that lifted the price to $26.52 through last week.

The deal could backfire though if Yahoo’s effort to make more money alienate a Tumblr user base that so far has been subjected to hardly any advertising during the service’s six-year history.

“Yahoo has to manage this acquisition in a way that keeps Tumblr’s user base while trying to add advertising, which historically tends to turn off a lot of people,” said Forrester Research analyst Zachary Reiss-Davis.

Mayer is betting that Tumblr will provide Yahoo with a captivating hook to reel in more traffic and advertisers on smartphones and tablet computers. That rapidly growing market is expected to become even more important during the next decade as people increasingly consume digital content on mobile devices instead of laptop and desktop machines.

Besides offering one of the top mobile apps, Tumblr also runs one of the world’s busiest websites, featuring 75 million daily posts about everything from politics to pets. Advertising has been a missing ingredient so far as Tumblr, like many online services in their early stages, focused on building a loyal audience before turning its attention to making money.

Tumblr will remain based in New York and led by Karp, 26, who may now have a mentor in Mayer, 37. The startup has about 175 employees.

The deal also has some symbolic significance for Yahoo, an 18-year-old company that had spent much of the past decade aimlessly drifting under different management teams while Google Inc. overtook it in terms of size and influence. At the same time, newcomers such as Facebook Inc. and Twitter began to command the attention of people who found themselves spending less and less time on Yahoo.

Part of Yahoo’s problems stemmed from missed chances to improve its service and technology.

Yahoo flirted with potential acquisitions of Google and Facebook in those two companies’ early days, only to have the talks unravel because Yahoo wasn’t prepared to pay asking prices that were far below the current market values of Google ($300 billion) and Facebook ($63 billion). Yahoo also considered buying YouTube in 2006, only to be outbid by Google, which snapped up the world’s leading online service for $1.76 billion — a price that now looks like a bargain.

Even when Yahoo did pull off deals, the company has been criticized for mismanaging a list of acquired services that includes photo-sharing Flickr, online help-wanted service HotJobs and content-sharing service Del.icio.us. Yahoo ended up selling HotJobs and Del.icio.us, but Mayer has been looking at ways to spruce up Flickr and blend its photos into more of Yahoo’s other services. Mayer is expected to discuss more changes for Flickr at an event in New York Monday evening.

Tumblr could help Yahoo recapture some of its cachet with teens and adults in their early 20s, a demographic that has become tougher for Yahoo to reach in recent years as it fell behind the technological curve and struggled to develop compelling services.

While Facebook has turned into a mainstream social network where even grandparents now connect family and friends, Tumblr has become one of the places where the cool kids hang out.

Tumblr emerged has a trendy online hangout by providing a service that makes it easy to share blog posts, photos, video and other content in an enthralling mosaic. The service says it has amassed more than 50 billion posts from 108 million blogs. Tumblr users rely on a dashboard to pinpoint the kinds of blogs that they want to track and also have tools to pass along the posts that interest them.

That wealth of content could be interwoven into Yahoo’s other services that provide coverage of general news, sports, finance and entertainment. Tumblr also will fill Yahoo’s gaping void in the realm of social media. Yahoo so far has had to connect its services to Facebook and Twitter to give its users a social networking outlet.

Having its own social networking service will also give Yahoo more insights into the things that people like — a key to distributing ads to consumers most likely to be interested in a specific products. That data, in turn, should help Yahoo sell more ads and accelerate its revenue growth. After three successive years of declines, Yahoo’s revenue rose slightly last year, but lagged far behind the growth at Google and Facebook. Mayer has vowed to bring Yahoo’s revenue growth back to at least the level of the overall Internet ad market.

Yahoo’s acquisition will deliver a jackpot to Karp, who dropped out of high school to concentrate on computer programming. He ended up being home schooled while taking classes in Japanese and working on gambling software. Later, he became a product executive at a parenting website called UrbanBaby. After CNet bought the site in 2006, Karp set up his own a development service called “Davidville” before deciding to create an outlet for personal expression — an endeavor that hatched Tumblr.

Karp’s cut from the Yahoo deal is about $275 million. Most of the rest of the money will be paid to the venture capitalists that invested about $125 million into Tumblr. That list includes Spark Capital, Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, Union Square Ventures and Insight Venture Partners.

Author Shares Tips For Stressed Parents

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - From work to kids to personal health, many parents have a lot on their plates and that stress can pile up. But experts say that stressed parents could be doing damage to their children.

Shea Sanchez and Jamie Fowler are friends, but they do not get much time to relax. Sanchez shared her routine. “Get ready,” she explained, “get my daughter ready, get them to school, get home, take her to soccer practice or to gymnastics, whatever else I have to do, and go to bed.”

Fowler described her day in much the same way. “Getting two little girls ready for school as fast as we possibly can and heading 25 minutes to work, then to come home and do more stuff with them,” she said.

A little stress is normal in life, but parents who are too stressed all of the time can be hurting their children. “Most parents, I don’t think, realize how much it affects children’s physiology,” said David Code, the author of “Kids Pick Up on Eveything.”

His book’s title is especially true when it comes to stress. “Today’s parents are so worried about toxins and pollutants in food or in the environment. I think the biggest toxin, by far, is stress,” Code said.

But there is a surprising solution. Instead of focusing attention on the kids, Code said, parents should take more time for themselves. Head out on a date with your partner. Socialize some more. Even just stepping out of the front door for a couple minutes can make a world of difference. “Exercise with your spouse,” Code suggested. “We don’t realize that we’re socializing with our spouse and that relationship, that marriage relationship, is key to your child’s well-being.”

Take time to hang out with friends, Code said. “Don’t come home from work and play with your child,” the author added. “Come home from work, call up your best friend and have her come over. She can bring her kid. You two have a glass of wine and talk about the day. The two kids are playing together. They can also see the great example that you’re setting in socializing, so they pick up social skills.”

Fowler and Sanchez followed this advice. “They’re social, then we get to enjoy our social time as well,” said Fowler.

Code offered some other tips for stressed out parents. Do not eat lunch at your desk. Get away from the office and eat with other people. Also, try to take one day each week where you do not have your eyes glued to a computer or smartphone.

Johnson Scores Twice As Sounders Beat FC Dallas

SEATTLE (AP) — Eddie Johnson scored twice, including the winner early in the 62nd minute, and the Seattle Sounders ended FC Dallas’ nine-game unbeaten streak in MLS play with a 4-2 victory Saturday night.

Johnson’s second goal of the game and fourth this season came just one minute after Dallas completed a comeback from a 2-0 deficit when Michel drilled a corner kick from the right side into the upper left roof of the Seattle net to tie it.

The Sounders (4-3-3) stretched their unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2) after a franchise-worst 0-3-1 start.

“For the first couple games of the season, my body was beat up, and it was frustrating, because there was a time that as a team, we faced a really difficult challenge,” Johnson said. “But it was just getting that rhythm and getting that confidence, and staying true to myself and believing in my teammates.”

League-leading Dallas (7-2-3) hadn’t lost since a 3-1 setback at Chivas USA on March 10 in the second game of the season.

“You never want to squander a two-goal lead, but we knew they were dangerous on set pieces,” Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said. “The timeliness of our third goal was vital, and we continued to get opportunities.”

Johnson put the Sounders on the board in the 16th and Lamar Neagle made it 2-0 in the 30th. Second-half substitute Obafemi Martins added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute as Seattle racked up four goals for the second straight game.

Johnson’s winner was set up by Lamar Neagle, who sent a through ball toward the top of the penalty area. Johnson took it around onrushing goalkeeper Raul Fernandez and, from 10 yards in front of the net on the right side, sent a shot across the goalmouth and into the far side of the net.

“We had opportunities in the first half, but we just had to be more composed, show more composure in the box when we got our chances, and stick the ball in the back of the net,” Johnson said. “We got the chance in the second half, and Oba and myself, we made it count.”

Kenny Cooper got one back for Dallas early in the 54th before Michel’s equalizer in the 61st.

“Being able to measure ourselves against the first-place team in our conference is important,” Schmid said. “Being able to show that once all of our weapons are healthy we can score goals is important, as well.”

Midfielder Osvaldo Alsono set up Johnson’s first goal on a counterattack. Johnson took the long pass from Alonso, went into the penalty area and fired into the back center of the net from 16 yards in front, getting his shot past onrushing defender Matt Hedges.

That was just the second time in 12 games this season that Dallas has allowed a first-half goal.

Neagle scored on a wide-open breakaway 14 minutes later after taking a through-ball from Brad Evans.

FC Dallas cut it to 2-1 when Cooper, playing near the penalty spot, headed in a free kick that Michel drove into the box from 40 yards out.

Michel’s dramatic game-tying goal came on a corner from the right side that went just over the outstretched fingers of Sounders keeper Michael Gspurning.

“They created a lot of chances, a lot of breakaways, a lot of counterattacks,” Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. “It seemed like the only time Seattle really put their foot on the ball is when we were down a man. The rest of the time, it was very fast-paced. I think probably the bigger thing that mattered was I think our guys lost their composure and emotions when they considered some of the calls that weren’t being made, and then, you’re just disappointed.”

Teen Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver In Grand Prairie

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A teenager died on Sunday night after an alleged drunk driver struck him while he was walking a across a bridge in Grand Prairie. Naiim Mustafa Bethea was pronounced dead on scene after his body was thrown off of the Corn Valley Road bridge and into Kirby Creek below.

It happened at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday night. The creek is 19 feet below the bridge.

Police said that the 19-year-old victim was wearing headphones at the time of the incident, and he may not have seen or heard the on-coming Dodge pickup truck. Two other pedestrians on the opposite side of the road witnessed the whole thing.

The 31-year-old driver of that vehicle told police that he did not see the teen, but he was later arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter. The driver was later identified as George T. Roarx of Grand Prairie. The case remains under investigation.

This was the 10th traffic fatality this year in Grand Prairie.

Firefighter Dies While Battling Dallas Condo Fire

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A Dallas firefighter was killed while battling a six-alarm fire that sent flames shooting through the roof of a three-story condominium complex on Monday morning.

The fire was first reported just before 3:00 a.m. in the 13000 block of Abrams Road, just north of the LBJ Freeway in Dallas. Crews who first arrived on the scene found heavy flames and smoke showing. There are 24 condo units in the building at Hearthwood North Condominiums, and more than 20 of them were affected.

As many as 150 firefighters were on the scene battling the fire, which was still burning out of control after three hours. Firefighters worked defensively to prevent flames from spreading to nearby buildings. Most of the fire had finally been put out by daybreak. There is no word yet on what might have sparked the massive blaze, which reportedly started on the third floor.

At least five residents were rescued from the burning building. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with a minor injuries. Two other residents were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. All of those people are expected to be okay.

But there was one death during the blaze. As crews were battling flames, one firefighter radioed to report that he was trapped inside of the burning building. Rescuers spent hours trying to locate that man and bring him out to safety. However, he was not found alive. His body was retrieved from the burned out wreckage just after 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning. The other firefighters on the scene lined up to pay their respects as the deceased veteran firefighter’s body was carried out under an American flag.

At a news conference held Monday afternoon, the deceased man was identified as Stanley Wilson, a 28-year veteran firefighter. He is survived by his wife, two teenage sons and mother. Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Louie Bright, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, and Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm met Wilson’s family on Monday morning. “Our heart is broken for his family,” said Rawlings. Wilson graduated from Lake Highlands High School in 1980.

The last Dallas Fire-Rescue member to be killed on the job was Lt. Todd Krodle, who fell through the roof of an Oak Cliff apartment building while battling flames in August 2011. Krodle had been with Dallas Fire-Rescue for nearly 18 years.

Meanwhile, the American Red Cross is helping residents who have been displaced by the fire. A bus is transporting them to a shelter which has been set up at the Lake Highlands Recreation Center. As of Monday afternoon, 31 people had registered with the Red Cross for assistance, though the organization is expecting more.

2 Women Set On Fire In Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Two women were hurt, one of them critically, after an assault involving a flammable liquid in northwest Fort Worth early Monday morning. The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. inside of a Texaco convenience store located near the intersection of Long Avenue and Azle Avenue.

The two women were playing video games inside of the store when a third women entered, doused the two with a flammable liquid and set them on fire.

One of the injured women was transported to Parkland Hospital by air ambulance in critical condition. The other woman was also taken to Parkland Hospital in a ground ambulance. That victim’s burns are not life threatening. Store clerk Alex Hilo also suffered minor injuries to his right hand and arm as he tried to help the women. He was treated and released at the scene.

Hilo spoke about the attack a few hours later. “I got scared that the whole station is going to blow, because things was happening too fast,” Hilo said, recalling flames igniting in just the matter of a second. “There was a bunch of fires coming, so that’s when I went and tried to help.”

The clerk remembers the victims screaming has he led one of them outside. “That’s when I burned my hand,” Hilo said. “I wanted to take her clothes because I know there’s liquid on it, and if I take the clothes out, will be less fire on the thing.”

Hilo described the injuries. “All the top of her body — her hair, her face — everything was burned,” he said. The second woman received burns on her back. “I was scared for the girl because we have a lot of gas tank outside, gas in here. I was really scared.”

The female suspect left the scene with another person in a car. Officials with the Fort Worth Police Department and Fort Worth Fire Department are investigating the attacks. “We’re not sure who was in the vehicle that the suspect left with,” said Tim Hardeman of the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Hilo said that he had seen the suspect inside of the store before, but did not know her name.

There has been no word yet about a possible motive for the attacks, but authorities do not believe that this was a random incident. Investigators feel that the suspect somehow knew the two victims and where to find them on Monday morning.

Where do you work and what is your title?

“I work for Greenville Independent School District. My title is executive director of human resources. I make sure that all employees are treated with dignity, that all needed benefits are given, that all teachers are highly qualified and that all paraprofessionals meet the qualifications needed to work. I get to work with people and I love it more and more each day.”

What kind of degree is required for this position?

“An administrator’s degree is preferred. However, a management degree can also suffice. I have my M.Ed in Educational Administration with an administrator’s certification. I got my B.S. in 2.5 years. However, due to my lovely children and job, I waited nine years to get my masters. Higher education always has something to contribute as far as groundwork for any career. My teaching career and campus-level administration positions prepared me as well. I have learned to always respect another’s viewpoint and to listen, which is an acquired art. I feel that this has helped me be successful.”

Do you have any advice for someone interested in pursuing a career in human resources?

“If you want to do H.R., you must really have a love for people. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. You must be flexible and listen to all viewpoints. Your decisions affect lives, so don’t take people lightly. Be prepared to work. You never know what another human will do or say, and there is no off button like one you would have on a computer. But, if you give it your all, you will love it! There are days when you have to reprimand and even fire someone. However, most days you get to see how small things make big differences in the lives of others and you feel so good about that.”

Rangers Top Tigers Despite Cabrera’s 3 HRs

ARLINGTON (AP) – David Murphy’s three-run shot was barely enough against Miguel Cabrera’s three home runs.

Murphy put Texas ahead for good with a drive just over the wall in right field in the sixth inning, and the Rangers spoiled the second three-homer game of Cabrera’s career with an 11-8 victory on Sunday night.

“Very nice to be on the winning side,” Murphy said. “Big game, fun game, national TV. We got to witness the best hitter in the game hit three homers.”

Cabrera hit a three-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the fifth off Derek Holland, then went deep again in the eighth against Tanner Scheppers.

Cabrera, the 2012 AL Triple Crown winner and this year’s leader in average and RBIs, went 4 for 4 with 5 RBIs and has 11 homers, one off the AL lead.

Still, the Tigers lost three of four to the Rangers, who won a four-game series for the first time after twice losing with a chance to do it.

“I’ve never seen a guy that puts the bat head on the ball as regular as he does, and on all pitches,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “He’s just a tremendous hitter. I’m very happy that he’s headed to the airport.”

Murphy’s homer gave the Rangers an 8-7 lead and answered a bases-loaded double from Prince Fielder that put Detroit up by two after the Rangers had walked Cabrera intentionally even though first base wasn’t open.

The go-ahead shot came against Jose Ortega (0-1), who hadn’t allowed a run in six relief appearances covering seven innings.

“He got me down 0-2, and I was basically in battle mode to do whatever I could to prolong the at-bat and get anything done in that situation,” Murphy said.

Robbie Ross (2-0) pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the win, and Joe Nathan worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth for his 13th save. He has saved all 36 career chances against Detroit.

The Tigers led 4-1 after Cabrera hit a three-run homer over the Texas bullpen in right-center field in the third and added a solo shot to center off Holland, who had given up just two homers in 57-plus innings this year after setting a club record by allowing 32 homers last year.

The Rangers had wiped out that lead — and another one after Fielder’s double — and were ahead 11-7 when Cabrera hit another solo homer to center off Scheppers.

“You don’t feel very good when guys hit three home runs and you lose the game,” Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. “Miggy never ceases to amaze you. I also take my hat off to Prince Fielder for that situation against a left-handed pitcher. Between the two of them, that was impressive.”

The Rangers overcame Detroit’s early lead with a four-run fifth highlighted by a pop fly double from Adrian Beltre that scored two and gave Texas a 5-4 lead.

Beltre went 4 for 5 with two doubles — both of them bloopers — and Geovany Soto and Lance Berkman had three hits apiece for the Rangers, who matched their season high with 18 hits.

Soto, who came in hitting .185, went 3 for 5 for the Rangers and had a fourth hit taken away when Andy Dirks caught a long drive to center while crashing into the wall.

Dirks’ catch on Soto ended a string of six straight Texas batters reaching in the sixth against Ortega (0-1), who had allowed only five base runners this season.

Soto started both Texas rallies with leadoff hits in the fifth and sixth innings, when the Rangers scored eight of their runs.

The light-hitting catcher had a double to start the fifth and scored on a groundout by Elvis Andrus. Murphy, who also had a sacrifice fly, walked and Berkman drove in Craig Gentry with a single before Beltre’s second double, which slipped out of Detroit shortstop Jhonny Peralta’s glove just inside the left-field line.

Washington scrambled to protect a 5-4 lead in the sixth, finally ordering reliever Jason Frasor to walk Cabrera with runners at first and second when he got behind 3-1. Washington brought in left-hander Michael Kirkman to face Fielder, but the lefty slugger ripped his second double to the wall in center field.

Soto started the sixth with a single, and Andrus walked with one out before Murphy pulled a pitch from Ortega to right to put Texas ahead for good.

“Neither team quit fighting,” Washington said. “It was a very good ballgame. It didn’t matter what you tried to do. Each team came back, and we got the final blow and were able to sustain.”

Holland and Detroit starter Doug Fister both went just 4 2-3 innings, the shortest outing of the year for Holland. The left-hander gave up eight hits and four runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Fister allowed nine hits and five runs.

“I am the nurse manager for fifth floor oncology at Baylor T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital. I am responsible for managing the clinical, operational and strategic activities of the unit. This is a 24-bed, acute care unit, providing around-the-clock inpatient care for cancer patients. We have a staff of about 50. I am responsible for managing the clinical performance of this staff.”

What kind of degree is required for this position?

“It is my understanding that all applicants for nurse manager positions are now required to possess a master’s degree. I have a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. In addition, I possess a master’s of nursing degree with a specialty of Health Care Systems Management — MSN-HCSM. It is a nursing degree with a business management emphasis.”

How has your education prepared you for this position?

“The business management focus of the MSN-HCSM has been beneficial in preparing me for issues related to human resource management, financial planning, program development, statistical analysis and strategic planning. DPD Patrol Car Hit; Officer Hurt

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas police officer went to the hospital Sunday night after his patrol car was hit by another car.

It happened at the intersection of South Walton Walker Boulevard and Duncanville Road at 8 p.m.

The drive and passenger of the other car were not hurt.

The officer is recovering from minor injuries, and says he is alright, just a little sore.

No charges have been filed as of the time of this report.

Families Picked Up By EF-4, Now Picking Up The Pieces

GRANBURY (CBS 11) - Residents in Rancho Brazos put on brave faces as they examined what became of their homes after a massive tornado.

There was limited access to the disaster zone, but media members were allowed in Sunday for a short period of time.

Entering the neighborhood, there was seemingly unending devastation. House after house, tree after tree, car after car, smashed and mutilated by Mother Nature.

“I look across the street and there’s a tangled mess of cars and trees. You just couldn’t comprehend that within an hours time, it looked like a wasteland,” said long-time resident Shirley Warren.

But a symbol of hope was one of the first things erected inside the disaster zone: an American flag.

Miguel Morales surveyed the slab of concrete where his mobile home once stood. He can hardly believe that he and his family survived.

Morales and his wife took cover in their bath room and shielded their three children, ages 10, 8 and 7 on the night of the storm.

“I just closed my eyes and prayed,” he said.

His 10 year old son, Dominic, vividly remembered that fateful night.

“When I was in the bathroom I said, uh, ‘If I die, I always love you,’” he said. “When the tornado came, we — the tornado picked us up and then dropped us over there.”

All five family members were swept up and away by the EF4 tornado, landing in different spots.

Miraculously, they all walked away with only cuts and bruises.

Dominic suffered the worst injury, a deep cut that required 9 stitches.

With the help of volunteers, including one of the children’s teachers, the Morales family was able to find their car keys, social security cards and birth certificates, but not much else.

Everything else, besides a few toys, some clothes and other small items, was buried in a mangled pile of rubble.

Carolyn Sozen, a teacher, said 8 of her students were directly affected by the tornado. She said it was important for her to be with her students during this time of need.

“We just wanted to come and support the family more than anything,” she said.

Sozen said the other students in her class have been very concerned about their fellow students who haven’t been at school due to the tornado.

“The kids that were not affected were very compassionate, concerned. Thinking about them wanting to bring them their own toys, wanting to bring them their own clothes, asking for their phone numbers so they can call them,” Sozen said.

Many of the people here may have lost everything, but they are just grateful to be alive.

“I cried the first day. I was scared, but not anymore. I just say thanks God, for giving me another opportunity for life,” Morales said.

Officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety will continue patrolling the Rancho Brazos neighborhood until further notice.

Bae Wins Byron Nelson For First PGA Tour Title

IRVING (AP) - Sang-Moon Bae watched anxiously after hitting his tee shot at the par-3 17th hole Sunday in the Byron Nelson Championship.

When the ball landed on the front edge of the green fronted by water, he bent his knees and leaned backward obviously relieved. He was only a few shots away from his first PGA Tour victory and a congratulatory hug from the widow of the tournament’s namesake.

After squandering a four-stroke lead in the final round, the 26-year-old South Korean beat Keegan Bradley by two stokes for a win in the United States to go with his 11 international victories on the Korea, Japan and Asian tours

“It’s something I’ve always dreamed of, winning on the PGA Tour,” Bae said. “It was surreal to have Mrs. (Peggy) Nelson there and with all the history … I was in awe, actually, so almost I didn’t know how to react. “

Bae finished at 13-under 267 with a closing 1-under 69 on a day with wind gusting to near 40 mph at times, similar to conditions two years ago when Bradley got his first PGA Tour win at TPC Four Seasons. Bradley shot 72 this time.

Four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the front nine gave Bae a four-stroke advantage in the final group. But he made double bogey at No. 9 and a bogey at the next hole.

After some nice par saves, Bradley finally got even with a birdie at the 15th hole, a 17-footer that had just enough to get into the cup. But he missed a short birdie putt at the next hole to fall behind for good.

“When my iron play came back in the latter part of the round, I had confidence,” Bae said. “On that shot on 17, I knew it was short, and the wind pushed it over to the right, and I was happy and relieved that it turned out OK.”

Bradley was trying to become the Nelson’s first wire-to-wire winner since Tom Watson in 1980. Bradley set the course record with an opening 60 even with two bogeys.

“I’m pretty disappointed but Moon played very well,” Bradley said. ‘I just didn’t play great today, but I hung in there. I chipped away. … When I made that putt on 15, I was pretty confident that I was going to win.”

Charl Schwartzel, the 2011 Masters champ, shot a 68 to finish third at 10 under. Justin Bolli shot a bogey-free 65 for the best round of the day and matched his career-best finish of fourth. A stroke further back at 272 were Morgan Hoffmann (66), Martin Kaymer (68) and Scott Piercy (72).

Bae won $1.2 million, nearly matching his PGA Tour career earnings of $1.6 million in his 42 previous starts. He tied for second last year in the Transitions Championship after getting into a four-man playoff. His is the fourth South Korean-born player to win on the PGA Tour, joining K.J. Choi, Y.E. Yang and Kevin Na.

Bradley’s birdie at 15 was the only one he made all day. It gave him a share of the lead when Bae missed a par putt there from just inside 6 feet.

But after Bae sank a 5-foot birdie at the par-5 16th hole, Bradley had a shorter putt on the same line — it horseshoed around the hole and didn’t fall. He then hit his tee shot at the 171-yard 17th over the green.

“I hit that right down my line, right perfect,” Bradley said. ” I just hit it too good. I ripped it through the wind.”

That made it irrelevant that he finally had a par at No. 18, the hole he bogeyed the first three rounds. Especially when Bae’s final drive into the middle of the fairway.

Players wore red ribbons during the final round in memory of Ken Venturi, the 1964 U.S. Open champion and longtime CBS golf analyst who died Friday.

With the gusty winds and dried-out greens, the scoring average was 71.8 on Sunday. That was two strokes higher than Thursday’s first round, after 1½ inches of rain. Players were able to lift, clean and place their balls the first two days.

“Feels a little like the British Open without rain,” Kaymer said about the conditions Sunday.

At No. 14, Bradley drove into the left rough between some trees and missed the green before chipping to 5 feet to save par. On the par 3 just before that, his tee shot settled behind the green, but he hit from there to 8 feet and made that putt as well.

Bradley scrambled for pars on the first two holes, and gave up the lead at the 502-yard third hole when his drive went left into the water. He bogeyed and Bae rolled in a 27-foot birdie putt.

Bae was 16 under and four strokes ahead after three consecutive birdies, on the fifth through seventh holes.

Notes: Tom Gillis, in his 150th PGA Tour start since 1993 and still without a win, started the final round only two strokes out of the lead. He shot 76, including a triple-bogey 7 at the sixth hole that already had him 6 over for the round. … Ryo Ishikawa had an eagle, five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in his closing 67. … Defending champion Jason Dufner was 4 over through eight holes Sunday on way to a 72. He finished at 279, tied for 33rd. … Louis Oosthuizen (neck) and Michael Bradley (back) withdrew before the start of the final round. Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open champ, entered the Nelson with the No. 7 world ranking, the highest-ranked player in the field. He was 3 under through three rounds.

New Lunch Options For Lemurs At Dallas Zoo

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Lemurs at the Dallas Zoo now have a new place to have lunch thanks to the efforts of Stanford Alumni and members of the Dallas County Master Gardeners.

The crew planted new edible plants for the animals in a garden located in the Dallas Zoo’s Lemur Lookout exhibit. They planted 100 herbs and other plants for the garden, including lemon balm, chives, oregano, thyme, mint, sage and rosemary along with maiden grass.

In addition to adding tasty tidbits for lemur’s to munch on, participants covered exposed areas of the garden with mulch; making for a much more lush ambiance. But the gardens, located in a public area of the park aren’t just for looks.

The browse garden project is a partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Dallas County Master Gardeners, and are educational as well as functional.

The browse garden project: provides diet enrichment plants for many of the Zoo animals, reduces cost and fuel consumption used for shipping purchased food, avoids the use of chemicals and promotes environmental protection, according to zoo officials.

Cuban Hobnobs With Chris Paul (And Tiger Woods) In Vegas

LAS VEGAS (105.3 THE FAN) - So Mark Cuban, Chris Paul and Tiger Woods walk into a bar…

It sounds like the beginning of a joke in need of a punchline. But in fact, it’s the rich and famous gathering for a weekend in Las Vegas to benefit The Tiger Woods Foundation. This particular event was ‘Poker Night,’ a $10,000 buy-in tournament.

But for Dallas Mavericks owner Cuban (and Paul, his primary target in free agency), the stakes are, of course, higher.

The Dallas Mavericks aren’t allowed to venture into recruiting Chris Paul or any other 2013 NBA free agents until midnight, July 1.

But that doesn’t mean the rich and famous can’t rub elbows for a good cause.

Tiger Woods and skier girlfriend Lindsey Vonn are the hosts this weekend at his annual “Tiger Jam.” The photo is from “Poker Night” at Moorea Beach Club Beachside Casino at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It’s a $10,000 buy-in poker tournament that benefits The Tiger Woods Foundation … and of course, that 10 grand fee keeps the riff-raff out.

And invites the likes of Cuban and Paul in.

DallasBasketball.com reported last week that Paul is the Mavs’ No. 1 target (with Dwight Howard No. 2) in free agency this summer. Paul can re-sign with the Clippers for five years and $107,343,500 or can join a new team like Dallas for four years and $79,714,196.

The Mavs have gained and retained cap room for the last two years for the pursuit of a player of Paul’s level to team with Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki himself is fully invested in the recruiting process. Meanwhile, as improbable as it seems, In this space, we have revealed some of the Mavs’ thinking when it comes to ways to acquire Paul AND Howard . But again, acquiring one superstar is challenge enough, especially when it means he is guaranteed $27 mil less to leave his existing team.

It’s all a gamble of sorts — pun intended — and one that cannot officially begin until July 1. But nothing precludes the parties from doing good deeds for charity.

Police: Family Violence Claims Two More Victims

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) – Updated 9 p.m.: Forty-four-year old Jennifer Krieger and her teenage daughter were found dead Sunday after an apparent double homicide in a Grand Prairie home, police said.

A family member called police after she couldn’t get a hold of the residents and then discovered all the doors were locked at their home in the 1800 block of Sandra Lane.

“Once they forced entry, they found two deceased females — a mother and teenage daughter,” according to Det. Mark Beseda, Grand Praire Police Department.

Grand Prairie Police Officers forced entry into the home in the 1800 block of Sandra Lane and found the bodies.

“Once he got to the third try and you heard the door open, the family immediately fell out and cried and that’s when you knew,” said neighbor Jodi Boyd.

The official cause of death has not yet been determined, but this incident is being handled as a double-homicide.

Grand Prairie police said they have a suspect in custody and that the slayings could be related to domestic violence.

They are still trying to determine the suspect’s relationship to the victims. His name has not been released.

Cousins Beef Over Gas Money; One Dead

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An argument over gasoline money left a woman dead early Sunday and her cousin in jail accused of running over her twice then heading home to go to sleep, police said.

The victim’s mother later called the suspect and persuaded her to go to the hospital, where officers took her into custody.

She was identified by police as Kassandra Martinez, 20, of Dallas. She faces a murder charge.

The victim, Yunel Aguilar, 24, of Dallas, died at Parkland Memorial Hospital shortly after the incident.

An arrest warrant affidavit gave this account of the death:

Aguilar, her sisters, and Martinez went to Viviana’s Club on the 1100 block of Emerald Street in Martinez’s 2002 black Volkswagen Passat. They agreed to give Martinez money for gas because the tank was almost empty.

At the club, the women argued about whether or not to leave and get something to eat.

Martinez left the club without her cousins, driving off with the women’s purses in the car trunk and stopping at an Exxon gas station at 11366 Emerald Street.

Aguilar and her sisters caught rides with other people from the club, saw Martinez at the gas station and had their drivers pull into the gas station so they could get their belongings.

Aguilar and one of her sisters walked toward Martinez’s car, talking to the suspect as they approached. Martinez asked them if they were going to pay for gas, and they said no.

Aguilar was at the back of the car trying to get Martinez to open the truck. One of the sisters told police that she then heard Martinez say, “Well, if that’s the way it is” and Martinez put the car into reverse and backed up rapidly, running over Aguilar. Then Martinez drove forward, running over Aguilar a second time.

Martinez then drove away from the gas station and went home.

In an interview with investigators, Martinez said she had not been drinking or taking drugs before she drove over her cousin. She told authorities she did not feel any bumps or hit any curbs or poles when she drove out of the gas station.

Martinez’s bond amount is $150,000.

Rangers Place Ian Kinsler On 15-Day Disabled List

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed second baseman Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with a right intercostal strain. To take Kinsler’s place on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled infielder Jurickson Profar (#13) from Triple-A Round Rock.

Kinsler did not start the past 2 games due to the injury, although he pinch-ran on Friday vs. Detroit. He is batting .302 with 7 home runs, 11 doubles, 20 RBI, and 24 runs scored in 40 games for Texas this season. His 16 multi-hit games are tied for 7th-most in the American League. The first date he would be eligible to return is June 2.

Profar, 20, will be seeking his first major league action in 2013. He has spent the entire season with Round Rock, batting .278 (40-144) with 27 runs, 7 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 19 RBI, and 21 walks in 37 games for the Express. In his last game at Triple-A last night vs. Colorado Springs, he went 3-for-4 with his first career multi-homer game, scoring 3 runs with 3 RBI. Profar has hit safely in 8 straight for Round Rock at .424 (14-33) with 6 runs, 2 doubles, 3 homers, and 8 RBI in that span. He has seen action at both shortstop and second base this season.

Profar’s only other major league action came last year with Texas, batting .176 (3-17) with a homer, 2 doubles, and 2 RBI in 9 games. His last game in a Texas uniform was the 2012 American League Wild Card Game against Baltimore, when he hit a pinch single in the 9th inning. He became just the 6th teenager ever with a postseason hit.

With these moves, the Rangers still have 39 players on the club’s 40-man roster.

Body Recovered At Lake Arlington

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Arlington Fire Department divers located a body believed to be that of a boater reported missing Saturday night.

The body was located in the general area where witnesses saw a man go into the water when his canoe capsized in Lake Arlington.

Dive teams from Fort Worth and Arlington resumed the search about 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning after searching until about midnight the night before.

Arlington police are in charge of the investigation.

Identification of the man is pending a review by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office.

Residents In Granbury Get Glimpse Of Their Homes

GRANBURY (CBSDFW.COM) - Residents in the Rancho Brazos neighborhood got their first look at the devastation caused by an EF-4 tornado.

Residents had been kept out the neighborhood for their safety, but today stood in line for hours to get a permit from authorities to allow them to get into their neigborhood to see the damage.

Law enforcement officers are allowing people in and out of the neighborhood through one entrance, checking every vehicle for permits and turning away those who don’t have one.

Sheriff Roger Deeds said they handed out 160 permits today to residents and their family members who were there to help with the clean up. Forty-six other permits were granted for volunteers, insurance adjustors and clergy, who were there to help residents.

A curfew from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. remained in tact.

For residents like Laurie Lovelady and her family were stunned and saddened by the devastation they encountered.

“When we left out of there that night it was dark so we didn’t see all of the devastation that was there,” said Lovelady.

The sunshine today exposed what darkness had covered the night the tornado hit.

Lovelady and her sister, Pat Jones, were inside the home they share when the tornado struck.

“The house itself as far as we can remember it never budged. The only thing was the windows were broken and debris was coming in the windows,” Lovelady said.

Lovelady and her sister were some of the few whose homes remained standing.

But not all were as lucky. Many familes dug through piles of rubble, hoping to salvage anything they could.

“The worst part about it was when we first rolled up there was kids out there with nothing. That’s the worst part of the whole thing for me,” Keith Bush, who was helping Lovelady and Jones salvage items and assess the damage. “My wife started crying because those were the kids she deals with at the school. They live out there.”

The neighborhood was a symbol of home for so many because many built their homes with their own hands and with the help of Habitat for Humanity.

“It won’t ever be the same,” Lovelady said.

But the sisters say with the help of friends and loved ones, they’ll recover and beleive hope will be reborn in that neighborhood once again.

Andrus Has 5 Hits In Texas’ 7-2 Win Over Detroit

ARLINGTON (AP) — Elvis Andrus had a career-high five hits, Mitch Moreland homered and Texas roughed up Anibal Sanchez in the Rangers’ 7-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night.

Andrus scored three runs, had two RBIs and stole a pair of bases as he hit lead off for the second straight game in place of ailing second baseman Ian Kinsler. Andrus was a home run shy of the cycle and finished off his 5-for-5 game with a single to right in the eighth.

Moreland hit a solo shot off Sanchez leading off the third, his 10th home run of the season.

Sanchez (4-4) gave up a season-high six runs in 2 2-3 innings, his shortest start in almost two years. The right-hander yielded nine hits, walked two and struck out two as his ERA jumped from 2.05 to 2.77.

The Rangers (28-15) have the best record in the American League, one game better than the New York Yankees.

Texas starter Justin Grimm (3-3) gave up two runs in 6 2-3 innings to snap a three-game losing streak. The rookie allowed seven hits and struck out two while throwing a career-high 105 pitches.

In his second career start last June, Grimm surrendered six runs and eight hits in one inning against the Tigers.

Detroit has lost seven of 11 games and dropped a game behind the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central.

Torii Hunter snapped an 0-for-15 slide with an RBI double and he scored two batters later on Prince Fielder’s single, bringing the Tigers within 4-2 in the third.

Kinsler missed his second straight game with bruised ribs, an injury that was aggravated after he was hit by a pitch from Justin Verlander on Thursday night.

Andrus singled on Sanchez’s first pitch of the game, then stole second and advanced to third on catcher Alex Avila’s throwing error. The Texas shortstop scored on Avila’s passed ball.

The Rangers extended their lead to 4-0 with three runs in the second.

Andrus got the inning going with an RBI triple that tipped the end of Hunter’s glove in right and he scored on Sanchez’s throwing error.

Lance Berkman capped the second inning with an RBI single.

Sanchez threw 32 pitches in each of the first two innings. This was his shortest start since going 1 2-3 innings Aug. 10, 2011, as a member of the Marlins.

Moreland led off the third with a 415-foot blast into the Detroit bullpen in left. It was Moreland’s seventh home run in May.

Andrus ended Sanchez’s night with an RBI single that stretched Texas’ lead to 6-2 with two outs in the third.

Berkman’s RBI double scored Andrus, who led off the sixth with a double.

DALLAS (CBS 11) – Americans held there collective breaths Saturday night, hoping they had the winning ticket in a $600 million dollar Powerball drawing. The buying pace was furious. Texans alone spent more than $26 million dollars on Powerball chances on Saturday — some $2 million an hour.

“I had a dream that I won. So now I’m going to play to win,” R.L. Horton told CBS 11 News while shopping at Fuel City Dallas.

Most of us know it’s a pipe dream … still, what would we do with $600 million dollars? “I’d be a blessing to someone in my family, hopefully my kids, my church home, maybe take a couple of trips, buy a house and car” said Darian Powell, adding, “Especially take care of Mom!”

Igor Smiljcic bought 15 tickets. “$600million?” he asked. “Buy half of Dallas, maybe?”

But the odds of winning are $175 million to one. The downside, says licensed clinical therapist Melody Brooke, is that many poor people spend too much on trying to hit the big one.

“They’re the ones that most desire to get out of their financial circumstances so they’re more driven to do that when they feel helpless to do anything else.” But when a big payday comes along, many of us join in, and Brooke says that’s natural. “It’s a funny thing, I think we all have an inner gambler that wants to come out now and then. Something like that is irrisistable.”

So, hopefuls play, some for the first time, like Rudy Barron. “My wife always picks numbers and she never plays them and sometimes they come up so I’m thinking I should try to go ahead and play it.”

Chad Bartlett is a first timer, too. “One ticket is better than no ticket; the odds go up a whole lot with that first ticket.”

Larce Hodge, a friend of Horton’s has his own system. “Normally pick and hope, that’s about it,” he says, but Horton interrupts him saying, “You know what I do? I’ve got all the numbers in a jar, I put put a top on it — I shake them up and the ones that come out that’s the ones I put on my ticket.”

And he says he’s won $2900 that way in other lotteries.

Powerball operators say it’s likely every possible combination has been bought somewhere but there isn’t a winner tonight, Wednesday’s pot could approach a billion dollars.
