The Texas Rangers announced the winners of the team’s 2014 Minor League Awards on Thursday. Slugger Joey Gallo was named Player of the Year.
The Rangers have signed both of their first-round picks from last week’s amateur draft, pitcher Alex “Chi-Chi” Gonzalez and high school shortstop Travis Demeritte.
The Rangers chose a college pitcher with their top pick in the MLB draft. The team took Alex Gonzalez with the 23rd overall pick. They had last used their top choice on a college player in 2008.
