TXA 21 today announced its 2011 High School Football Game of the Week broadcast schedule. The season begins Thursday, Aug. 25 with a live broadcast of Class 4A powers Rockwall Heath and West Mesquite.

Big 12 athletic directors voted Monday to prohibit the broadcast of any high school sporting events on the newly created Longhorn Network for at least the next year.

State Legislation Would Ban Older Football Helmets

Public school districts wouldn’t be allowed to use older football helmets under legislation passed by the Texas Legislature. The Texas Senate gave final approval Monday to a bill that bans schools from using helmets 16 years old or older.

Players, Coach Suspended After Brawl At High School Game

Officials at Mesquite Horn and DeSoto High School suspended all five players and one coach involved an on-field brawl during the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game.
