In a move to spur sales of the Xbox One and catch up with rival Sony’s PlayStation 4, Microsoft says it will start selling the console without the Kinect sensor, which cuts $100 from the price.
Microsoft confirmed that there will be no new Xbox in the next year. “For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360,” said company spokesman Frank Shaw.
Kinect for the Xbox 360 is making leap to desktop computers in February, but according to sources, it may be a built in to laptops soon.
Kinect will need to exude the iPad-like magic that defies frugality and gets people spending to experience something new.
