An elderly North Texas couple continues to recover after being attacked by a swarm of aggressive bees. Stanley and Nancy Whitehead were attacked after working to help the Possum Kingdom Chamber prepare for an annual barbeque.
Animal control officers are warning people about a wave of bee attacks that killed 2 dogs and sent one man to the hospital.
They are tiny black insects and they have taken over parts of Tarrant County. The swarm, called Hackberry Nipple Gall Maker insects, is covering windows, cars and have even made their way inside homes.
It’s been a busy summer for those in the bee business. The owner of Bee Safe Bee & Wasp Removal said, “This is a year that we’ve had more business than we’ve had in our last 20 years.”
A swarm of bees stung eight people in a northeast Fort Worth neighborhood Sunday afternoon, said Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Richard Harrison.
A hive of 40,000 Africanized honey bees, known as “killer bees,” killed a Central Texas man and hurt a woman who tried to help him fight the swarm. It happened in Moody, about thirty minutes south of Waco.
