DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) Falling glass from a Downtown Dallas high rise shut down traffic lanes during rush hour on one of Dallas’ busiest streets.
The accident occurred at the Mercantile Commerce building on the 1700 block of Commerce Street. The building has been vacant for several years, and sits across the street from the Mercantile on Main apartment building.
Witnesses say they heard glass crash before seeing another panel fall from the building’s top floor into the street. Police diverted traffic while clean-up crews swept the glass out of the busy intersection.
“We got in contact with the management of the building in New York. They sent maintenance here,” said Dallas Police Lieutenant Anthony Williams. “It’s something heat related or stress from the building being so old.”
No one was injured, and the maintenance team is in the process of investigating why the panels of glass fell.
