ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The man at first base for two periods in Rangers history, Rafael Palmerio was also equally solid at the plate, serving as a very good designated hitter.

Palmerio hit 321 of his more than 500 home runs in a Rangers uniform, hitting his 500th at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on May 11, 2003 against the Cleveland Indians.

Palmerio, who played for the Rangers from 1989-1993, and then again from 1999-2003, still holds the Rangers hitting record for games played with 1,573 and for runs, with 958.

An All-Star in both his stints in Arlington, Palmeiro won one of his 3 Gold Glove awards and his second Silver Slugger award when he returned to the team in 1999.

So for his home runs, good fielding, and long career in Arlington, Rangers fans have named Rafael Palmerio the 7th best Ranger ever.
