FORT HOOD (CBSDFW.COM) – The man charged with the mass killing at the Army post in Fort Hood is no longer in jail. Major Nidal Hasan has been hospitalized.

Hasan was taken from his specially built jail cell in the Bell County Jail to Fort Hood’s Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

Army officials aren’t saying why Hasan needs medical treatment, but confirmed that his condition is currently good and that he is expected to be released within the next 48 hours.

It isn’t clear if his hospitalization will further delay his murder trial.

Hasan was shot several times during the shooting rampage that left 13 soldiers and civilians dead.

For the past few months the former Army psychiatrist has been fighting a judge’s order to shave his beard.

Hasan faces the death penalty if convicted of the 2009 attack near Killeen.
