Cannons rattled celebrants at DFW National Cemetery and missing man fly formation jets flew over downtown. North Texans paused to pray and to honor the men and women who gave military service in defense of America.
In Dallas the theme was Wounded Warriors. And there in a Paralyzed Veterans Honor Guard was Tricia Labar of Rockwall. “I’m from a military family; my dad was service, all my brothers and sisters were service, my son goes in in July,” she said.
Her paralysis came from an accident after she left the service. Still, she calls the Honor Guard her way to continue serving. “It’s so important to us. It’s so important to every one of these guys to be able to come out and continue to serve and to show people that paralyzed veterans do continue to serve their country.”
Her duties later Tuesday include an Honor Guard appearance at a film debut about another Wounded Warrior. Sgt. Travis Mills lost both arms and legs in Afghanistan. His never-give-up-never-quit attitude is documented in the film. “I didn’t serve any more than anybody else,” Mills said modestly, “I just had a rough day at work that’s how I take it.”READ MORE: Feds Charge Dallas Attorney Rayshun Jackson In Drug Money Laundering Scheme

He’s an inspiration, bud modestly claims it’s just about perspective. “I have a three-year-old, I have a wife of six years, I didn’t lose my life. There’s families over here,” he said pointing to a group of Gold Star Moms whose sons where killed in battle, “that have lost loved ones and they’d give anything for their loved one to be in my situation.”
He continued, “I’m still able to function and do things like a father should, like a husband should, so why not move on with life and go forward positive?”
