DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A truck smashed into a home and narrowly missed a grandmother and her grandson in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas late Thursday night. The incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Holcomb Road.

The vehicle was traveling down the roadway at a high rate of speed when it barreled over a metal fence and through the home’s front yard. The truck then crashed violently into the front of the house and even smashed into the homeowner’s car.

The impact just missed a woman and her 4-year-old grandson who were asleep inside of a bedroom. Neighbors arrived to help get them out of the crumbling structure.

The child’s mom and two sisters were also inside of the home at the time of the crash. “It felt like a bomb,” said resident Erica Rubio. “My mother, she was scared and she was crying. My baby, my mother was in that room.”

Neighbors witnessed the driver get out of the damaged truck and stand on the sidewalk. But as they worked to save the woman and her grandson from the wreckage, that suspect fled from the scene. Police located that man a short distance away and took him into custody. It has not been said what charges he will face.

A case of beer was found just outside of the crashed truck, leading investigators to believe that alcohol may have been a factor in this incident. The man has not been identified. He was taken to Baylor Medical Center at Dallas, but the extent of his injuries has not yet been released.

Rubio is not even mad at the suspect. She is just thankful that her family is alive following the crash. She does not have homeowner’s insurance to cover the cost of the damages, but a neighbor has already offered to help clean things up and close the gap that used to be her front wall.
