Dallas (AP) – Today Tarrant County prosecutors filed more charges against owners of Johnson Family Mortuary in Fort Worth.
Dondre Johnson and his wife Rachel Hardy have each been indicted on felony theft charges. Prosecutors allege the pair accepted payments for services they never provided.
Last summer authorities found several decaying bodies in the mortuary. Seven of the eight bodies were in advanced stages of decomposition according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. None of the bodies showed signs of trauma or foul play.
Both have been previously charged with multiple counts of abuse of corpse. In addition, in an unrelated matter Hardy is accused of theft of public money for fraudulently receiving public assistance.
They both are denying any wrongdoing.
The mortuary closed its doors last July for nonpayment of rent.
