KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) – Keller ISD’s decision to keep school open Wednesday rather than close for a third day due to weather prompted a serious response.

A student tweeted at the school, “See, this is why I wouldn’t be surprised if someone shot up the school.”

Keller police chimed in, posting the tweet on their Facebook page and encouraging parents to have some “Real Talk” with their kids.

“Flippant comments or jokes involving school violence (bombings, shootings, etc.) via social media are NOT JOKES. Social media comments are taken very seriously by school officials as well as local law enforcement authorities,” wrote police on Facebook.

Other parents commented on the Keller Police post to back up the police warning.

“Parents need to know what their kids are posting!! Not the least bit funny!!” said Jennifer Curtis.

Missy Jenkins Hayes wrote, “Wow this crazy!!!! Do kids not realize how much trouble they will get into for this kind of mess. Ridiculous !!!”

Police decided no criminal charges would be filed and referred the incident back to the district. Keller ISD will decide if the student should face any disciplinary action.
