Broderick Eggins thought he could dash into the main Tarrant County Tax office and get his registration first and inspection later. But under the new law — he had it backwards.
“My car is not up for inspection until the end of this month,” he explained. “But now they’re saying for me to get this done I’ve got to go come up with some more money, get it inspected, then come back and stand in another long line and get my tags and to me it’s just a huge, huge hassle. It’s very inconvenient.”
Tarrant County’s Tax Assessor-Collector is Ron Wright. He was checking in on offices all over Tarrant County, claiming most people knew of the change.READ MORE: US Launches Mass Expulsion Of Haitian Migrants Who Crossed Into Texas Illegally
“It’s been a bit challenging for us and a lot of the customers because the information we need (proof of inspection with DPS data files) in the computers isn’t always there when we need it so we’re having to input peoples’ license numbers or VIN numbers into the system, which is extending the time for a transaction,” Wright told CBS 11 News.
Wright claimed some of the long waits were also due to regular first-of-the-month business. The lines can be avoided altogether,Wright says once you get the inspections you can get registration at a number of places. “You can do it by mail. You can do it online. You can do it at a contract grocery stores like Kroger, Tom Thumb, Fiesta, Carnival,” he said. Just have that inspection first.
When asked if the new system was a good one Rocio Becerra said, “Absolutely. You can do it once and just get it over with.
Mike Waitkus, who was at the Hurst office to get a handicap sticker, agreed the new law should work in the long run. ” I think it’s a great opportunity. I work for a car dealer and I think that’ll be very helpful for our customers to simplify with one sticker.”MORE NEWS: Chargers Finally Get Fans At SoFi, But Many Cheer For Dallas
