KELLER (CBS 11 NEWS) – After losing everything in a house fire 18 months ago, things got even worse for a Keller family. Their contractor ran off with money for the repairs and the parents separated, leaving the mother and her three kids are homeless.
But thanks to the help of more than 200 people in 30 days, one woman pulled donations together to give Michelle Marin and her family a new home.
Her name is Christina Bynum Breaux, and she is the founder of the Stepping Stones Foundation.
She rallied everyone and everything she could, from people, stores and other charities that wanted to help to restore the home that was just a burned up shell one month ago.
Countless volunteers worked tirelessly for 30 days donating time, furniture, appliances and everything you can imagine!
“Everybody started stepping up. It was crazy good,” said Breaux. “About 30 days later we have everything in the house down to every knife, every fork, every spoon!”
“I just thought we were gonna go back to our old house and it would be empty… But we got everything!” said a very surprised Marin.
After living in motel rooms and inside their car, Marin’s family has hope again, and it’s all thanks to a few hundred strangers who just wanted to do something “crazy good.”
“Don’t lose your hope…at the end of the day, you’re gonna see the light,” she said.
