DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – A mother and her son disappear — and now a note to family suggests they may be in imminent danger.

Heidi Martinez-Trejo, 28, and her one-year-old son Carlos Gomez were last seen Saturday afternoon in the 9700 block of Webb Chapel Road in Dallas. But a note sent to family members Tuesday night said they might be in immediate danger, so police have listed them as critical missing persons.

No one we talked to in the heavily Latino neighborhood knew them, but Accion America were in the area, and Carlos Quintanilla is helping get the message out. “The good thing is I’m able to go reach out to our community so if I put it out I know people are going to start distributing it,” he told CBS 11 News.

Besides notifying contacts in the neighborhood where the pair disappeared, Quintanilla is publishing the police notice in Spanish to the group’s Facebook followers, including the Mexican consulate.

Quintanilla said 20,000 Hispanics would know about the search by dinnertime and he predicts the information will be spread to other language groups. “Once it spreads out beyond the Latino community it goes out to the Anglo community and they say, ‘You know what? I saw this person. I saw them on the bus station or the train station.’ Whatever. We hope that will happen with her.”

Police have not released details of the message sent to family. But Quintanilla believes Latinos will nonetheless be concerned. “You try to find the person,” he said of Martinez-Trejo. “You raise awareness in the community that if it could happen to her it could happen to you.”

Diana Galvan agrees. She lives in the neighborhood. “We need more security around here around this area,” she told CBS 11 News. Galvan says it’s a night when the danger grows. She worries about the two out alone. “I’m a mother and I feel for the family and I feel bad as far as her and her son missing. I don’t know what I’d do if my daughter or grandson came up missing. I think I would lose it.”

Heidi Martinez-Trejo stands 5’6″, has black hair with blonde highlights and was last seen wearing a pink blouse, blue pants, and a black hoodie. Carlos was wearing a green shirt with a white collar.

Anyone who can help is urged to call the Dallas Police Department’s Missing Person unit at 214.671.4268 or 214.671.4265.
