DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A mother was arrested over the weekend after her 7-year-old daughter was left to sleep outside of the popular King Spa & Sauna in northwest Dallas. Alicia Carroll was booked into Dallas County Jail and has been charged with child abandonment.

Sources said that the young girl spent Saturday night near a dumpster before being found early Sunday morning, when she started looking for her mother. The spa is located in the 2100 block of Royal Lane in Dallas.

According to the spa’s manager, Carroll was at the business for about four hours on Saturday night, relaxing in the pool with friends and hanging out near the spa’s bar. Security video showed the mother exiting the business at around 10:00 p.m. with her child, but then leaving the location without the young girl.

It is not exactly clear what happened after the mother and daughter left the spa.

Carroll returned to King Spa & Sauna at about 9:45 a.m. the next morning, looking for her daughter. Sources said that, at this time, she was clearly intoxicated despite the spa’s strict three-drink policy.

Police were called and the 28-year-old mother was arrested. Carroll told police that she left her daughter with someone at around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night, and that individual was now refusing to give the girl back.

Authorities began to search for the child. She was eventually found after 11:00 a.m. when citizens flagged down officials and alerted them to the girl’s location, back at a dumpster near the spa. Employees stated that they had no idea that the young girl was outside alone overnight.

The child was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and then released to a family member.
