I loved the 80’s. Great times, the decade in which I got married, and the one that got my TV career started. But it also was the decade of some of the best pop/rock & roll music ever recoreded.

According to Billboard magazine, the all-time top 10 singles for 1985 were:

1. Careless Whisper (Wham!)
2. Like A Virgin (Madonna)
3. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (Wham!)
4. I Want To Know What Love Is (Foreigner)
5. I Feel For You (Chaka Khan)
6. Out Of Touch (Daryl Hall & John Oates)
7. Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Tears For Fears)
8. Money For Nothing (Dire Straits)
9. Crazy For You (Madonna)
10. Take On Me (a-ha)

All of these are great songs but there’s another one that just gets you up and running….”Walking On Sunshine” by Katrina & The Waves.

Released 30 years ago, its lead singer, Katrina Leskanich, had been a dishwasher on an American military base in England when this opportunity came up. The song made huge money for EMI and was one of its biggest earners in its day, as well as a popular song for American radio disc jockeys. It just had that feel-good vibe that all people can relate to. And a song that you cranked up the volume loud!

The lyrics are about things people can relate to: love, being in love, and how wonderful it is to be in love!

Locally in the DFW area, you can hear many of your favorite songs from the 80’s on CBS Radio’s 98.7 KLUV-FM and 100.3 JACK-FM (KJKK-FM) or hear the original MTV VJ’s from the 80’s…. Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, and Alan Hunter…. on Sirius XM 80’s On 8.

Have a great week. See you next time.
