FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A victim in a deadly car crash last month in Palo Pinto County is still recovering in a Fort Worth hospital, preparing to have one of her legs amputated.
Kelli Mellema and six others — including four children — were heading to a church youth function in Waxahachie when a car crossed the center line along Highway 337 and collided head-on with their vehicle.
Mellema is now in Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. The 30-year-old victim is set to have her left leg amputated below the knee on Tuesday. Doctors will then try to use her left leg to save her right leg.
Friends and family members in Mellema’s hometown of Graham have set up a Go Fund Me page to help with a portion of the medical expenses. So far, that page has helped to raise more than $8,000. Click here to visit the page and make a donation of your own.
