FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A victim in a deadly car crash last month in Palo Pinto County is still recovering in a Fort Worth hospital, preparing to have one of her legs amputated.

Kelli Mellema and six others — including four children — were heading to a church youth function in Waxahachie when a car crossed the center line along Highway 337 and collided head-on with their vehicle.

Mellema is now in Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. The 30-year-old victim is set to have her left leg amputated below the knee on Tuesday. Doctors will then try to use her left leg to save her right leg.
