DENTON (CBS 11 NEWS) – Dozens of Fort Hood soldiers are at Robson Ranch in Denton this weekend for the annual “Support Our Troops” event.

The group is being hosted by the residents at Robson Ranch for a series of events, including a golf tournament where soldiers are paired up with the residents. The R&R weekend is the resident’s way of thanking the soldiers for their service.

Sergeant Ahmad Saker said he was thankful for the invitation to participate in the event. “It’s really rewarding in a sense.”

The soldiers are hosted free of charge. They stay with host families at the ranch, and are treated to all the amenities available there.

For many of them it’s the kind of relaxation therapy they need.

Fort Hood Second Lieutenant Josh Merioles said, “I know a lot of the guys coming back from overseas assignments need this R & R, and it’s just great to see all the support.”

The events are also geared towards raising money for charities that benefit service men and women.
