IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) — Orlando Scandrick tells me that he feels “blessed and appreciative’’ this morning after finalizing a re-worked contract (with its existing base salary of $1.5 million) that features $9.5 million more along with a tacked-on additional year.

Scandrick’s deal now includes at least $4 million guaranteed for 2015, a salary boost in 2016 and in total, is scheduled to pay him $20 million over the next five years.

“I thank the Jones family,’’ Scandrick tells me. “I’m grateful … it’s a blessing and I can’t put into words how appreciative I am of the Dallas Cowboys organization and the Jones family.”

Last week, while Scandrick was missing voluntary workouts, COO Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan, “He’s been a really good football player for us. He’s a leader on this team and we certainly need him out here. In my mind he should be out here right now working out.”

Shortly thereafter, Scandrick showed up at Valley Ranch in a good-faith move. Now the team’s best corner gets his reward.

Scandrick, who in 2013 signed his previous deal that included a $9 million guarantee, is 28 and was Dallas’ best corner in 2014. He entered these negotiations with four years left on his existing deal.

Jones provided a hint to 105.3 The Fan last week regarding the extension concept.

“If something makes sense for us to add some years or do something, then we’ll take a look at that,” Jones said.
