FLOWER MOUND (CBSDFW.COM) – A team of divers at Grapevine Lake on Monday located the body of a boater who had been was reported missing on Sunday. The man was working on a vessel that was docked near the Twin Coves Marina in Flower Mound.
Authorities said that the man slipped, hit his head and fell into the water on Sunday. A friend immediately called 911 to report the incident, and rescuers were there within five minutes.
Dive teams swept the surrounding area on Sunday, but found no signs of the missing man. The search was called off as conditions became too dark for the divers. Rescuers were back at the lake early Monday morning to continue the search and finally found his body.
The boater’s name has not been released. He has only been identified as a white male in his 40s.
After recent storms, the water at Grapevine Lake is 41 feet deep in the marina area where the man fell. Grapevine Lake as a whole is 25 feet above its normal level. In fact, the road leading up to the marina is currently closed because of high water.
But the lake is open to boaters. The water is accessible from a few ramps. The deceased boater reportedly used a kayak to reach the marina.
Divers looking for the man had to be shuttled to the scene from more than a mile away. It took crews about 10 minutes to get themselves and their equipment to the search location. Once there, debris created problems for the divers. They found benches and even picnic tables under the water.
