NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Don’t put away your swimsuits, boats and life jackets just yet. Despite recent near-torrential rains and area flooding, the majority of North Texas lakes will be open this Independence Day weekend.
Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers say while most waterways are open, lake visitors will need to do their homework to find out if there is access to parks, boat ramps, marinas and recreational facilities.
Officials with the Corps say lake visitors should also be prepared since ongoing repairs may make access to electrical boxes and outlets, toilet facilities and trails limited. Boaters should also beware of floating debris and submerged structures that may be under the water surface.
Water at some area lakes has been receding quickly, so keep in mind conditions on waterways could change.
