MESQUITE (CBS11) – Dozens of residents at a Mesquite apartment complex are trying to battle the heat after the chiller system at their complex broke, leaving them without air conditioning since Thursday.

The lack of air conditioning comes just as temperatures begin to rise into the 100s.

The City of Mesquite is now getting involved to make sure the repairs are made.

The problem stems from a massive leak in the chiller system at Hillcrest Apartments near North Galloway and Hillcrest Street. But four days after the leak was discovered, residents are still without any cool air in their units.

“Me and my son we actually drove to South Dallas and ride around in the car to keep cool. I think we went to every 7-11 getting Slurpees ,” said Regina Miller.

Property managers said that they were working on fixing the problem.

Several crews could be seen digging into the crowd in an attempt to repair the leak to the system on Monday.
Property managers promised box fans to residents, water and snacks as crews worked through the problems.

Residents like Miller just hope property managers are listening and know what they’re doing isn’t enough.

“They sitting in the A/C right now. I wish they could just sit in apartment like us for one night and see how it feels to experience what we going through because they wouldn’t be able to do it,” said Miller.

The City of Mesquite said it will have building officials on the property on Tuesday to look over repairs.
