FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – With blankets and coats in hand, parents and students lined up Thursday morning and were ready for school. They are in store for some ‘big gets’ as Fort Worth kicks off its Back To School Roundup.

Some parents had been at the Will Rogers Memorial Center since one o’clock in the morning.

Chriscyntia Alvarado and her family showed up early to take advantage of the roundup. She said, “It benefits us because my husband has an illness; he’s got a second brain tumor. It helps us out a lot, with the four kids that we have, having to buy school supplies, school clothes and stuff. So, it helps us a lot.”

The Alvarado children, like many others, will also take advantage of the health services that include dental and vision screenings and vaccinations.

Students can also get free haircuts.

As far as the school supplies, many people are lined up to get free backpacks filled with supplies.

The event is one that parent’s had to register for, so unfortunately you can’t just show up and expect to get in.

Doors at the Fort Worth Back To School Roundup open at 8:00 a.m. and will run until 2 p.m.
