The picture was used to illustrate the importance of the Oxford comma. It shows without using a comma before the word “and,” whoever is writing the sentence is calling JFK and Stalin strippers.
“Wow. That’s unbelievable. That is unbelievable. I mean I feel like I shouldn’t be looking at that picture right now,” said Amy Steward, a Highland Park mother.
Highland Park ISD said it was an isolated incident and administrators have talked to the teacher who used the image in a 10th grade English class.
“I mean, it’s not appropriate. And I don’t understand why a teacher would use that. To me that’s not really teaching them anything,” said Marcel Solman, a parent.
While some were outraged by the picture, other parents could see why a teacher might use the image.READ MORE: The Aztecs 'Slowly Crush You': CBS Sports' Randy Cross Previews Fresno State-#21 San Diego State, Other Matchups
“It’s a little inappropriate. But I don’t know, whatever these kids need today. You got to catch their attention on something,” said Paul Farris, a Highland Park father.
Parents who complained about the image to the district did not want to speak on camera about the ordeal.
District spokesperson Jon Dahlander provided a written statement.
“The teacher deeply regrets the incident and apologized to students in his classes earlier today,” wrote Dahlander.
The district also said the image was not approved by administrators and the teacher on his own made the decision to use the drawing.MORE NEWS: Fort Worth Leaders Ignored Illegal Booze, Gambling As Money Ended Up In City Coffers On 'Hell's Half Acre'
