PONDER (CBSDFW.COM) – A Ponder police officer responding to reported gun shots around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, ended up in a shootout with a suspect.READ MORE: Man Arrested For Allegedly Trying To Rob Chase Bank In Weatherford
It happened in a neighborhood in the 600 block of Robinson Road.
The officer reports he was in a private driveway when a man approached him with a gun in his hand.

The officer returned fire and the suspect died at the scene.
The suspect’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
The officer is currently on paid administrative leave.
