DALLAS (KRLD) – It’s only three days till the Red River Showdown, and Fair Park is already preparing to welcome the fans in burnt orange and crimson red.
The Texas and OU banners will soon be up decorating the State Fair grounds, and Fair staff plan to open the gates at 7AM Saturday. The game kicks off at 11AM.
“We’re opening early so people can enjoy the fair before sitting down to the game,” says Karissa Condoianis with the State Fair. “That way everyone can get here on time for kickoff without getting stuck in traffic.”
DART will also have more buses and trains to accommodate fans heading down for the game.
This is the 110th year for the Longhorns and Sooners’ highly anticipated rivalry game. For 86 of those years, the game has been played at the Cotton Bowl in the heart of Fair Park.
“To have it be here year after year, right between Norman and Austin, it brings a whole different energy to the game,” Condoianis says. “No matter how each team is ranked every year, they come into this rivalry and you never know what the outcome will be.”
Whether you’ve paid for a game ticket or not, everyone in the fairgrounds can watch the Red River Rivalry. TVs will be set up at Magnolia Beer Garden, Texas Ice House, and Beer Haven. You can also hear game coverage beginning at 10AM Saturday on NewsRadio 1080 KRLD.
