DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The man VA police in Dallas shot outside a small clinic a few miles west of the main VA Medical Center Friday has been identified as 66-year-old, Scott Preston.

Preston remains in the hospital in stable condition according to Dallas Police.

It happened at the facility on Polk Street where veterans have basic primary care appointments.

Police say Preston walked into the clinic and was upset about an issue regarding his medication. His anger intensified and he attempted to hit the desk clerk. VA police were called and the situation escalated outside.

VA police officer Brandon Holloway, shot the man after he retrieved a handgun from a vehicle in the parking lot and pointed the gun at the officer.

The VA closed the clinic after the shooting. The staff of about 20-25 went home for the day, except for a doctor and a nurse.
