ALVARADO (CBSDFW.COM) – The city of Alvarado decided not to take any disciplinary action against Captain Gary Melson, who’s accused of sending a youth coach to jail.

Melson allegedly confronted, then arrested coach Jessica Curs at a basketball game between third-graders. Curs filed a lawsuit claiming the coach, wife and mother was assaulted, battered, falsely imprisoned, and maliciously prosecuted, among other things.

The City of Alvarado and Alvarado Police Department were also named in the suit.

An investigation by the CBS 11’s I-Team resulted in the criminal case being dropped. Johnson County Attorney Bill Moore told the I-Team, “Your reporting caused us to take a closer look at the case. Just based on a thorough review of it, I don’t think an offense was committed.”

The county dropped the case after a CBS11 I-team investigation.

However, Melson and the city still face a federal lawsuit from the incident.
