Law enforcement officials in Arlington are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a fatal crash on Wednesday night. Officers were called to the 3300 block of South Collins Street at around 9:30 p.m. after reports of a person being struck by a vehicle.

It’s only a short walk from this church on Collins to the home Nghi Pham was walking to last night.

But when police arrived at the scene, they found the 71-year-old man on the ground.

Investigators explained that the man was crossing the roadway near the intersection of South Collins Street and East Mayfield Road. He was not in the crosswalk at the time of the crash. A vehicle traveling southbound in the inside lane hit the man as he tried to cross.

According to a witness, the motorist stopped briefly before driving away from the scene.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.

Investigators have little information about the suspect. The vehicle has been described as a newer model dark-colored pickup truck with a lift kit. It may have dark-tinted windows and chrome rims. The truck will also likely have some damage to a front headlight assembly.
