WESLACO (CBSDFW.COM) –  Governor Greg Abbott visited the National Guard Armory in Weslaco Wednesday, to deliver cookies, visit with troops and their families and receive a briefing from military officials concerning ongoing border operations.

The visit comes in the wake of Governor Abbott’s decision to extend the deployment of National Guard troops at strategic locations along the Texas-Mexico border, an action that was taken to combat the significant increase in the number of illegal crossings along the Texas border.
